Absolute Rubbish on all three points !
How on earth can you presume to know what I "intended to imply" or what my "position" is on incomers ?
When have I made "slanted comments intended to disparage the English""?

For the record my position is that everyone has a 'right' to take an interest in Gaelic (how it could be otherwise?), that Gaelic should be preserved through the family and common usage (not through State intervention), that English are as British as the rest of us therefore why disparage them, and that, seeing as they constitute the vast majority of the population of Seil and Easdale, there is no question at all of lack of tolerence on incomers..its a non-starter!

Trust that is clear now and that the accusation of xenophobia will be withdrawn.

Surely the key to living peacefully in this world is dependant on individuals being able to communicate with each other in a way which is easily understood. English is no longer the language of just the English, so why can't we just accept one language for all has been found and the faster you can get everyone talking it, the better.

What's the point in trying to keep Gaelic alive? It's like replacing electric high speed trains on the railways with steam engines. The steam engines look nice, but no one is seriously going to use them again for anything other than nostalgic purposes.

And bi-lingual road signs are a complete waste of money. They look quaint but are stupidly quaint.

Surely the culture that named most of the places round here ( excepting the bits we vikings named  ) is deserving of the respect of keeping the original place names rather that some poorly anglised or bastardized equivalent - no doubt written by a non native mapmaker with no understanding of the history, meaning or culture implicit in the original place name.

If we have the respect to drop the poor colonial anglification of Bombay and Peking in favour of Mumbai and Beijing, then why are the Gaidhealtachd any less deserving?

If bilingual - english/gaelic road signs are to appear anywhere, the where more fittting than Argyll - Earraghaidheal - 'Land of the Gaels'

Fine, make all new signs in gaelic. A name is a name. All I want is one word to identify a place whether it be in English or gaelic I don't care, but stop the nonsense and considerable cost of replacing perfectly good signs with new ones showing both languages.

Besides I hate signs. There are far too many of them blighting our countryside. All signs should be banned. You can have your campaign to save a language. I want a campaign to save our senses. People should have to re-develop and re-atune their instinctive sense of direction. Then we may get some people, including politicians, who have some idea where they are going in life.
