We're going in . . .
.
Launch day tomorrow . . . Fairwinds is going in the water. Most of the Winter jobs list remains undone, but just getting afloat again will be great. Propped up on sticks in a yard is no place for a lady, and this living in a house business seems a lot harder since we got back last year after our Canaries cruise.
I know we are just WAFIs to those of you who ply the briny for a living, but at least I feel I have some control over my immediate destiny when we are at sea

Have fun, Nick B. And God bless Fairwinds and all who sail in her. But, from my experiences of the "joys" of sailing and of cold boatyards antifouling etc, you must be nuts!! Enjoy the cold, the damp, the great unwashedness, the getting stuck/terrified in storms, the lack of comforts etc anyway! Every man has his own ideas on pleasure

Well . . .
.
(See Fairwinds Goes South if you would like to read about our year away and haven't already)
We will go again - although this year our horizons are more limited, with possible destinations limited to St Kilda, the Faroes, Norway, Galway Bay . . . but just spending a night at anchor out between the Black Isles can be nice as well.
Spidey, if you have never experienced the thrill of a dawn arrival on a small boat in a new country or watched phosphorescent dolphins making synchronised torpedo runs on the boat at night then don't knock it . . .

We experienced 15 months of sunshine, saw all the Canaries, the Spanish Rias, Portugal, the Azores - and lived well, cheaper than we can live now we are back home.Every man has his own ideas on pleasure

YACHTIES OUT
Egotism in very small doses is alright but !!! :
"if you would like to read about our year away and haven't already"
Well the answer is a resounding NO from anyone who lives in this totally non-yachty island.
and....
"Launch day tomorrow . . . Fairwinds is going in the water. Most of the Winter jobs list remains undone, but just getting afloat again will be great."
Who cares about that little event?. Do you want to make this forum into a haven for yachties....probably the most boring people on earth?
Is the above worthy of a red card or do we live on a island whose forum appreciates freedom of speech......answers on a postcard to Adolph.com

Longshanks, as someone marooned on land why not stick your opinions in a bottle and chuck it in the sea?
There's no harm in someone blowing their trumpet a little (but you do it to excess) but you are probably (just once again) in a minority in saying you are not interested in reading said blog.
One thing you keep banging on about is people having chips on their shoulder. It's not something that bothers me, so it rarely enters my mind, but now it has, I can't help feeling you have a MASSIVE chip that makes you hate everyone.....possibly even yourself!
Wouldn't you like someone to like you? It's easy: just be friendly, relaxed and pleasant

Oh yeah?
.
One of the joys of this island is that it is extremely yachty. I could mention a well known yachty pub, the boatyard, the two moorings associations, the number of ocean going vessels in barns and gardens throughout the area, the Seil residents who have sailed to so many far flung places.
Are you perhaps a naughty schoolboy, LS?

You don't get out much do you, Shankers my old misanthrope.this totally non-yachty island

Well . .
.
T&T is one of the best known pubs among West coast yachtsmen, probably only rivalled by the Old Forge at Knoydart or perhaps more recently the pub on Sanda off the Mull of Kintyre.
As to the other, if you don't know what I mean then you don't know / haven't met many people around here do you?
Anyway, just take a look in the bay and up the Sound - most of those boats are owned by local residents.
What a sad individual you are LS. I really can't be bothered with this, afraid even I have put you on Ignore now.

Well my little friend you won't read this as I'm now on your ignore button....better than the red one 'spose.
anyway, maybe PP or Swarm etc will pick this up and pass it on to you.
How about expressing your opinion in the TnT that the TnT is a yachtie pub and see how the locals react to that?
Could brighten up our dull weekends here.

Would you care to expound on that Canu? In what sense messy? Not too keen on the yellow wellie brigade myself, they're a messy lot

Well CanU, shame we're in agreement here, nevertheless the yellow booted yachties which pollute our island all seem to have accents which come from the other side of our Roman wall and, thus, little appreciation for the reality of this island. As don't our resident geeks and teches who have similar accents.
Just a wee point. Luckily not a red card one as I'm now protected by an "ignore" button.

"brave of you to take on the administrator of the forum"
Not really; we all took on Maggie and our fathers took on Hitler. Dictators all suffer a hubristic moment which gives our Macquis an opening.
Gollum's was to put me on his "Ignore" button so now he can no longer see my subversive posts.
As Cap'n Bob might say : "Bring back Timmy"
or maybe not.....at least bring this forum back to one which appreciates freedom of speech and one which dismisses Political Correctness by allowing opposite opinions without rejecting them out of hand.

Yellow wellys......I thought only Fishermen wore yellow wellys, Its Leather backed with Goretex that yachtsmen wear on there feet these days. You must admit Nick there is a large percentage of yachtsmen and women sail about in a major drunken/post drunken stupor ignoring the basic rules of the road, yourself exepted of course.
