The cold war ended when the Berlin wall came down.
And what is happening in Ukraine now? And North Korea? You don't just raise your defences when tensions rise. It's too late by then. Like it was in 1939 and we were almost swept into obscurity by Hitler (I think I know what is coming next). But that is a fact.
Willfully so in fact as you have had this explained to you before
So everyone in the world must accept what you said because you explained it from your perspective? Nuts!

Nick, I'm beginning to think you are a misfit, a rebel with extreme, but minority views (as you will think I am in the other extreme)who has found it hard to live with uncomfortable truths until you found a sympathetic ear from a few other people hiding away from mainstream life in the quiet backwater of Seil.

Now, not one bit of that is intended to be insulting, or defamatory, and if it is and you take it that way I apologise unreservedly, but is there an element of truth to this that explains your particular perspective on Life and politics and why you give your location as Cloud Cuckoo Land?

Why shouldn't Nick have stayed in Scotland after he left the IRA
That fits. I suppose he became some sort of political exile.

Before penning a suitable reply to the latest vitriolic outpourings from ER (no relation to the inhabitant of Buckingham Palace) - please - what is a coffin dodger which seems to be something I am guilty of?

Ok - that is all very comforting to know that I am not a coffin dodger.
But despite asking around a bit, I have been unable to find anyone who can define the phrase for me. Although I am evidently not one myself, it would be helpful for an elucidation from ER on the meaning of the term - Coffin Dodger - so that I will be able to recognise one when I see one.
Not that I would probably accuse them of it - face to face- because it strikes me as a fairly derogatory expression.
Over to you ER - see how you can turn that into a denigration of IN, and a glorification of NB.

Jim,

Never mind all that.

What do you think of the Kelpies?

My! My! Nick B - are you trying to change the subject?
I thought I had a legitimate question for your neighbour, in the interests of broadening my knowledge.
I could say more on this subject, but will show restraint and reply to your question.
The Kelpies - at one time I was well kent with everything new going on in Scotland from Pitlochry downwards, but since retirement my travels have been further afield, and my knowledge of goings-on closer to home has been sparse - I have not even viewed the Falkirk Wheel, or even been up to Inverness since I came to stay on Seil. On the subject of the Kelpies, I was in complete ignorance of their existence until this present thread - and all I have to go on is a rather truncated photograph of part of the 2? of them, from which it would appear that they look like horses and are fairly large. Where they are is unclear and how they fit in with their surroundings is difficult to judge.
So at this stage in the game, I am unwilling to give an opinion on their merit. A National treasure or an eyesore? - the jury is out.
But one thing for sure - I hope it is not going to be dragged into the Independence brawl.
