Off-topic whinging by Innes Newton (from the Kelpies thread)
Yes, they look nice and add to the Falkirk Wheel set. But they don't do alot. So I'm staggered you aren't commenting on the costs of £ 5-7 million and £ 18 million and how the money could alternatively have been spent on the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the sick. A wind farm there would have been slightly more beneficial and have used less steel.

The contribution to the physical, mental and spiritual health of the nation of inspirational public works of art is not something that is directly measureable.

It's not me that is miserable and soulless. I was genuinely surprised you weren't bemoaning that sort of expense, that diverts cash from more needy causes, like you normally do. I like these sort of things, in the right environment of course.

There you go again, typing defamatory tripe.
Tell me exactly where I have railed against expenditure on public works of art in Scotland.

So come on then - apologise for that last remark, which you are obviously unable to substantiate.Innes Newton wrote:

Re: Kelpies, etc.
Nick you have made so many nasty comments to me, and others, over the years and have never apologised. I really haven't got the time to go through all your posts over the last six years or so and dig them all out just so that you can apologise to me. It's slightly off topic, but why not ask Alex Salmond and the Yes Campaign to apologise for all their comments and promises that they can't substantiate, and do a service to the nation?
Re: Kelpies, etc.
Who are you calling a random southerner, random southerner. I spent a big chunk of my life in Caithness. To me, if you live south of Inverness, you're a southerner.Elaine Rodger wrote:FFS, Someone puts in a great idea and the random southerner has to be negative. Toys oot the pram this morning, eh?
If Nick is so nasty why does he come on here, maybe he should try the Siol nan Gaidheal forum, wonder how long he'd last on there?
I put up with the nastiness and come on here to stand up for community members against the cybernats who are taking over Seil through intimidation!

.
I asked you where I had ever complained about that type of use of public money.
You say I have but you can't be bothered looking it up.
I call you out as a liar.
I am sure you know how to use the search function. Justify yourself or apologise.
.
You said I 'usually' bemoan public cash being spent on 'that sort of expense'. We were talking about the Kelpies, public art in public spaces.Innes Newton wrote: I was genuinely surprised you weren't bemoaning that sort of expense, that diverts cash from more needy causes, like you normally do.

I said
You have double standards in calling someone a liar. Go and read up on some of the links I posted and see how many people think Alex Salmond is a liar (and have called him such and he doesn't appear to have dared to accuse them of defamation) and the mis-leading, deceptive Yes Campaign.
Anyhow, I'm not apologising because you are much nastier than me.

When I say "that sort of expense" I was talking about large amounts of money in general that could be spent on more needy causes. I never mentioned inspirational public works of art. You did. But you think Trident is a waste of money, don't you? Aren't you in uproar that the money could be spent on schools, hospitals, training nurses, etc, etc.I was genuinely surprised you weren't bemoaning that sort of expense, that diverts cash from more needy causes, like you normally do

Don't be so stupid. The context was the Kelpies. Nothing else had been mentioned.Innes Newton wrote:

In fact, it was a nice, upbeat thread until you niggled and carped your uninvited way into it.
As for correlating a few grand spent on a public artwork with umpteen billion wasted on an obsolete and obscene weapons system that will never be used . . . well, words fail me.
All the off-topic posts on the Kelpies thread are now being moved. Make an off-topic comment again and I will simply delete your post. You really are an odious little troll.

I wasn't whinging. If you read my post I was saying I was surprised you weren't complaining.
Nick, far from being a troll, I bring a little balance to this website. I have strong views like you do. And someone with your views is pretty odious to me too. But that is the way the life is made up. People of all types. We make the world go round.
Which is the more immediate need? Schools, hospitals, training teachers, providing cheap homes, looking after the sick, homeless and hungry or a few pieces of public art?

'Morning all - do you two ever sleep? I feel the Kelpies are, at the moment, incomplete and await the final topping out with the ubiquitous traffic cone!
Don't Blame Me - I voted YES!

The Kelpies cost £5 million and were funded by a lottery grant. Works like this add to the well being of the nation in a way that is unquantifiable. Every day thousands of people driving down the M9 are uplifted by the magnificent sight of the Kelpies.Innes Newton wrote: Which is the more immediate need? Replacing Trident will cost £100 billion. That money would build thirty new hospitals and employ 120,000 new nurses. Or we could build 25 new schools and employ 50,000 teachers.
What's more important, posturing with useless, morally indefensible and insanely expensive weapons of mass destruction or looking after the sick, homeless and hungry?

With respect to Trident and the defence of your country, your peoples, your freedom, you can't put a price on it. I have a sneaky suspicion that if Robert Bruce before Bannockburn or Prince Charlie before Culloden had had Trident they would have threatened the English forces with it knowing that as a last resort they could deter any enemy.

That's right. It's worthless.Innes Newton wrote:With respect to Trident . . . you can't put a price on it.
Outdated, unuseable, morally indefensible.
Even the Yanks want us to scrap it. See the New Statesman article linked to below :
America tells Britain to pick: replace Trident, or be a "real military partner"

That's it. Deliberately mis-quote me. You know I was saying you can't put a price on defence of your country, your people and their freedom. It's worth everything. If you are not a Yes supporter. In that respect Trident is worth every penny. And I find nothing morally indefensible in making sure you protect your country, its people and its freedom.
I feel intrigued to ask, why are you living in Seil?

Threats nowadays are of a very different nature and not susceptible to the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction.
Even the USA wants us to get rid of Trident.
