Grey Area
Grey grave grasping life’s last husk
Grey clouds clawing dawn to dusk
Grey expressions, Grey foreboding
Grey complexion, hope eroding.
Souls now tuned to dismal weather
No laughter, frolic, craik or blether
We weary on through March’s drain
Its hail and dreich and cold and rain
The fag ash end of Winter’s moan
The final scene of home alone
Surely soon relief must come
Come weather gods, release the sun.

Re: Grey Area
You've certainly captured that dull, drear mid-March feeling!
Now I'm really depressed ...

Re: Grey Area
Brilliant poem, nobody! - really describes the depressing atmosphere and effect of our weather! Pity it applies almost as much to this May as to March! Nobody could paint this dreich picture better than nobody does here!
It actually reminds me of a wee poem I wrote over 30 years ago, one of just a handful ever. I repeat it here for info:
-------------------------
Cloudy Dull or Sunny Bright?
Drip! Drip! Raindrops splash harmony to the alarm-bell’s jangle!
The waking mind absorbs the mood and feels the cold damp dawn,
beckoning it forth
towards “the day the Lord hath made, we must rejoice and be glad in it”!
Or get up and get wet in it!
How much easier to rejoice, for those whose waking
senses the warm force of mellow sun, soothing muscle strand, boosting pulse, lightening shadows in sight and mind,
tinting life in golden yellow wash.
The positive tones of sun religiously oppose demoniacal bleak,
but chance, it allocates our lot
and ours is dripping through the slates!
Or maybe, like religion too, it’s us
who have to shake
the scruffs of chance and self.
Go forth and find the sun, the Son, the divine sun.
