Scottish Elections
Wow!!! I thought the elections here in the U.S. were screwed up. What happened? I was expecting to hear that the SNP had steam-rolled the other parties and Scotland was on its way to independence. It should be good reading on the papers over the next week.
Cheers

It did seem to be a bit complicated, judging by the time it seemed to be taking everyone in the booths down at the hall when I was there, but maybe they were just having a good dither over the choice.
Nice to see that we have finally elected a consituency MSP that will get things done, rather than someone who was ever ready to climb into bed with the labour - lib-dem love in.

So long George Lyon and thanks for nothing - perhaps if you'd actually listened to the local people on the issues that concern them and stopped your self-interested pandering and careerist fence sitting you wouldn't be hiding under a stone this weekend!

Quite agree. The next step is a referendum and then independence. Its about time we stood on our own two feet and learned to live without subsidies from the English. Maybe we might grow up then and take responsibility for our own fate rather than blaming others all the time. Strangely opinion polls show the English (about 60%) are more in favour of Scottish independence than the Scots (about 25%)....I wonder why?

Why . . .
Could it be that it is the only thing that will save them from having Gordon Brown as PM?Strangely opinion polls show the English (about 60%) are more in favour of Scottish independence than the Scots (about 25%)....I wonder why?

With 47 SNP seats to Labour's 46 - the SNP's newly elected Angela Constance is now of to have a baby.......just Great!
Angela do you really think it was a bright idea to stand for election in the full knowledge you would be unable to fulfil your responsibilities as an elected representative of the good people of Livingston coz you'd be wiping babies arses for most of the time?
No doubt still collecting your large MSP's salary (which comes out of my pocket) whilst your on maternity leave?
Apparently now even with the support of the Greens and either of the Tories or LibLabSDPdems, the SNP government would still be one seat short of a majority!
What does that mean - Yeah - you've guessed it - the whole future of Scotland could be decided by the the geriatric ramblings of one Margot 'it's my ball and I'm nae playing' MacDonald MSP for Lidl West.
Is there any hope for us?
(Isn't it funny you never see Isa from 'Still game' and Margot MacDonald in the same room)

What's the big deal about maternity leave? Nice to see somebody's keeping Scotland's birth rate up. She's still the elected member, so her seat isn't going to be taken by someone while she's gone! (and a minority government's much the same with 46 or 47 seats, i.e. you're relying on others to pass any legislation)
Where's the problem?
