Loss of electricity compensation following the storm
I heard that " SSE are offering an ex gratia payment of £75 to everyone whose electricity supply was off for more than 24 hours following the storm on Thursday 8th December. This has to be claimed, to do this, you should phone 0800 300 999 . They will ask for your postcode, house name or number and then, if you qualify, your name. If you wish to claim more than the £75 i.e. for loss of food etc. then you should not accept this and submit a claim separately ."
On calling up, they said email them at "feedback@sse.com" with your name, address, telephone number and email address and details of the outage duration to make the claim.

Thanks for that interesting information, MH. Exactly the kind of useful blog that makes this site valuable to the community.
Mind you, it's annoying that individuals need to apply. SSE knows who was affected and for how long and they know our addresses etc.

One of my neighbours has just received a letter to say that 'compensation' IS NOT GOING TO BE PAID OUT !! due to exceptional weather conditions
Has anybody else received a similar letter ?

Made my phone call and sent an email to them in December.
Got reply back to say there had been a lot of applications and I would be dealt with eventually. No further word to date - will keep updated!

I think you are right Donnie !
The longer they take to deal with compensation claims the more likely we are to forget about them !
Perhaps we should re submit our claims?

perhaps if we had a wind farm the electricity wouldn't have gone off for so long.................

Phoned SSE today to be advised the following;
They do not normally pay compensation but this storm an exception
Loss has to be over 48hours
It would appear that as we were off for only 44hours,the 2/3minutes it was restored for about 2hours before complete restoration counts as restored,but we were still not out for the required time.
So no compensation,letters will be sent.
Expressed disgust-"banged one's head against brick wall" comes to mind.

Um, exactly how would that work? If you think houses would be allowed to connect directly to it, think again. It would all have to go straight into the grid. No free/cheap electricity allowed. I heard the other day that some folk on Gigha thought that they would get the electricity from the Dancing Ladies - they were wrong. Some people on Easdale even thought the same when the wind turbine was proposed.
Nope - we all have to pay through the nose and for the pleasure of seeing the rich get richer through the subsidies they receive, paid from our pockets.

Electra, when was the power back on for 2/3 minutes?
If this did happen then the phrase 'synical ploy' comes to mind. I thought the power was off for 3'ish days.
If it did go back on, was it during the night? This is extremely sharp practice. If it was switched on why was it not left on?

I remember we had lots of blackouts when i was a boy i think its fun, aslong as you keep fire on and have a good supply of candels youre fine.
It seems Britains compensation culture has come to Seil big time.

I phoned regarding compensation in December, got a really helpful lady (I think in Perth), she processed the claim over the phone, I recieved confirmation of claim in early January, two weeks later a cheque for £75. Sorted!!

Has anyone else received any compensation, or even received acknowledgement of their claim?
To date, I have heard not a dicky bird, from anyone since submitting my claim, as soon as this website supplied instructions on how to do it.

power came back on for 2/3 minutes about 10-10.30ish on Easdale Island & then back completely about lunch time but inside 48hours.I was informed we were off for 44hours!
would Wendymiller let us know how long she was off as this would be helpful.
Jimcee -I had one reply to numerous emails & received letter dated 29/2 saying they were looking into claim which was why I phoned.

Finally got my letter (after a further email reminder) saying they are not going to pay compensation due to the exceptional weather circumstances .... pretty unimpressed it took them three months to work out that excuse !

Windy Miller recently received a cheque for £75 in compensation for loss of electricity.
Mad Hatter has now been told that no compensation is being payable because we had some bad weather.
Did they (the electric suppliers) pay out to early claimants and then reverse their decision when they got flooded with claims?
Do I smell a rat, or is there something fishy taking place in the corridors of power ?
