Surprised nobody has posted something about last night's earth tremor around 10.25pm.

And before any fatuous comments appear about what I was doing at the time I had not been in the pub and was on my own preparing my Union Jack quilt!

For those who missed it, I happened to be outside at the time-the noise was like thunder and the ground shook a little.

Anybody else experience it

It's a dangerous place you live in, up there around the Atlantic Bridge.
Likewise Ellenabeich where movement was felt.
Southern Clachan Seil and points southward must be the other side of the fault line, as we missed out on this cataclysmic event.
I trust there were no aftershocks to disrupt the quiltmaking.

Please, could our historic bridge, which was the first bridge to join the mainland of GB to an island, be referred to by its proper name 'Clachan Bridge!'

Despite what very expensive road signs and many publications say!!!!

Obviously "Drummer Man" is not in the business of fleecing the tourists.
Neither am I, but the economy of this island would be considerably worse were it not for their dollar input.
If that means of our communication with the mainland were simply known as Clachan Bridge which is not even as impressive as Erskine Bridge or Rumbling Bridge? and do they get any euros or yen on account of their bridgework? - we would not have all these busloads out with their cameras at the T&T on the way to the Taylor emporium, and spreadiing the word back home on what a delightful corner of the world this is, and to be sure to visit it on their trip.
Fortunately the recent earthquake did not do any damage to this treasured posession otherwise we might have had to suffer a Bailey Bridge and who would bother to get their camera out for that.

Seemingly, the definite article should not be used with reference to Tigh an Truish/T&T!

Had the wrist slapped over using it myself, after all we don't say "I'm going to the (use your own house name) for afternoon tea and crumpets!"

Well youv'e mined a real grey area here- when to use "the" before designating an address/building/event there seem to be as many reasons for as against.
For "the" - olympics, palace, races, voting station (topical), pub, red light district, dogs.
Against - Buckingham Palace, Glyndebourne, prison, church, London, Hell.
Peculiarly, although "the T&T" may raise an eyebrow or two (as appears to have happened in this case) it is quite in order to say "The good old T&T", regardless of whether it is good or old.
Perhaps someome out there can throw some light on the subject to save any further blushes from the outer reaches of Clachan Seil.
