Back to the Shore.

Post by Peter Connelly »

Back to the shore.

Skimming stones, trying to top a twenty-two
Or so,
Which I can’t get close to now.

Twelve's a good age for skimming,
Or ‘skitter-skatter’ as we pros called it then.

A good round stone, not too thin,
Is best; slate’s a topper for
An imagined Olympic bid and
Glassy water’s a necessity for gold.

Funny. If I was twelve now
I could be a stone myself,
Skimming, skimming, killing
CGI antiheroes,
Disillusioned and angsty,
With no fantasies at all
Of winners'-ceremonies
Among the seaweed
And no hope of ever
Skimming for Scotland.
The owls are not what they seem.

I really like this one too P, makes me think of my childhood (not skimming stones)... but how you could make a simple game into a grand adventure. :D Very well worded

Aww, leave the antiheroes alone, they're far more entertaining...not sure what my best number of skims is but it isn't very great...

Hmm, I can assure you mine was never 22. But, you know, a wee bit of inflation over the years... :)
