 8) One amicable solution to the problem of walking dogs on our golf course has already been found whereby the dog is enrolled as a non-playing reduced-rate member of the club. This does not entitle the owner to leave the d/s on the course but it does provide an encouragement for the club committee to look more kindly on such a memberly mutt. [From what I hear, there is plenty of growling and snarling on the club's committee so maybe one day soon a dog may even be elected President.] So there you have it, Nick B, enrol Homer as a member and all (you and his dog-sitters) can walk him on the course with enhanced peace of mind.... 8)

Nick,

Thanks for that. I'd need to consult our local GP for more info on the subject of what can be picked up from D/S.

Meanwhile in an attempt to discover more I came accross this http://www.sphsupplies.co.uk/index.php?cPath=4.

Can't wait to see some of the local hounds on the golf course attired in these

Some of us can remember Balvicar BGC (before golf course).
No controversy about walking your dog over that land then (right to roam was still understood), it was, where not poorly drained, well grazed.
AND
between the first row of slate cottages and the burn was a scattering of huts used by the inhabitants of the cottages as outside lavvies (I'm going back some time now but within living memory). These huts were demolished at the time of the creation of the golf course.
So, the land has had its fair share of a variety of faeces over the years and the shoreline still gets its fair share of human waste as the yachties (as admitted recently by my good friend NickMcB) flush their on board thunder boxes into the bay.
I dread to imagine the outcry if the golfers ban dogs (if its legally possible actually given our access rights and also given the actual feu ownership of the golf course land).
As I always say; Live and Let Live, and Poo and Let Poo.

Yup, sh1t is sh1t in my book. But farmland is different, and cow/sheep sh1t is to be expected in fields used for such animals. Dog/human excrement should not be acceptable when it is deposted in areas that could affect health (any health, animal or other wise)

The magic of the Internet - although I was shocked to hear that someone allegedly found a mistake on it recently!

I seem to have an unfortunate forte of becoming involved in commenting on matters of an evacuatory nature
At least you differ Donnie C from those, and I hope you don't mind if I paraphrase you, that seem to have the unfortunate forte of becoming involved in commenting on matters of an vacuous nature

My Dad became ill. After giving stool samples my Dad was told he had a rare type of salmonella from Kenya. He's never been to Kenya. But it was later discovered a local businessman had. After this man got back from Kenya his No.2's went down a sewage pipe and out in to the sea. There a seagull picked up the bug from the turds. It flew inland to where a farmer (my Dad) was feeding the ewes. After the sheep fed from the troughs the gull swept down to tidy up the barley missed by the sheep. Having fed well, the gull preened itself as it perched on the side of the trough. After a while it did a No.2 that landed in the trough. Next day the sheep were fed at the same trough. The sheep ate the barley from the trough that had a drop of gull sh1t on it. The sheep contracted the same strain of Kenyan salmonella. It aborted its lambs due to the infection. My Dad found the aborted lambs in the field and carried them to the Landrover so he could take them away to dispose of the bodies. It was not a good day. Several ewes had aborted their lambs in the last few days. He lit a cigarette to ease the stress of losing more livestock, unaware that the salmonella on his hands contaminated the cigarette he placed in his mouth. Amazing how the lab scientists traced the infection back to its source.

So it's not just d/s you need to watch out for. Where are you next travelling to Nick?

A truly sad, unlucky and educational story, PP, and one perhaps that highlights the importance of persevering with the new sewage works. Then the only problems of human jobbies in the local sea will come from the yachties (so much beloved by Longshits (jobby by choice!)).........

Brilliant story Pantyman. I haven't laughed so much since I read the reaction to Paxman's introduction to this year's Chambers Dictionary.

Is the moral of the story that we shouldn't smoke ("the salmonella on his hands contaminated the cigarette") or did I miss something?

Long Shanks (by choice)

ps great to see that my very good friend is now signing himself NickMcB.

Do you mean shite or shiite?

He might not be a shite by choice (or perhaps he acts that way deliberately), but having chosen various nationalities by choice, he might want to be a shiite.
