Amazingly no-one has yet commented here on the destruction of the island's only petrol pump by some daft woman in a big 4x4.
So - it looks as though another island institution is about to vanish with more than a few of the 'real' locals who work here being severely inconvenienced as a result.
The cost of a new pump will doubtless be prohibitive unless the driver's insurance can be made to pay - but similarly the cost of removing the pump and cleaning up the site will also be steep. It is a lose/lose situation for the proprietors unless they chase up this woman and her insurers - which hopefully they are doing.
I don't suppose the stupid woman who committed this act of vandalism will be reading this, but if you are please chase up your insurance company and get us a new petrol pump ASAP - then I suggest you go and take some driving lessons with the IAM, or perhaps just get a more sensible car. Some of us round here need 4x4s, but we know how to drive them. What is your excuse?
(And don't say keeping the kiddies safe, I may have to vomit)

Women in 4x4s are nothing compared to women coach drivers. I followed one today from the T'n'T all the way to CJ Taylor's at 20 mph or under, usually stopping at every bend. She was quite surprised when I approached her in the car park and pointed out the meaning of passing places.
Mind you, she was from Essex........
