Horror in The Hall

Post by longshanks »

I'm starting to see posters around the place advertising Al Bore's film to be shown at the hall over two evenings under the auspices of the Seil wildlife group (or whatever the tree-huggers call themselves).
I'll be going along cos I like a good laugh (occassionaly) and the film will certainly provide that. Probably the audience will too.
A few worries about the legality of it, though.
ie Does the constitution of the Hall allow for bookings which diseminate blatant political propoganda (which uses what are acknowledged as twelve lies/untruths to make its spurious point)?
And....there is a copyright infringement in that a charge is being made to view the film. Oh dear.
What do you think?
(Indignant replies expected from those amongst us who may be any two of the following: bespectacled...bearded...vertically challenged...computer geeks).

No doubt the self appointed guardians of our biodiversity will be getting in touch with the PRS to make sure they get their cut..

PS Are you going to "think again" when you get home Shankers?

No copyright infringement / performing rights issues if Mr. Gore has released the film into the public domain - which I think you will find is the case.

You're correct Derek the Dane; not only am I "think(ing) again" I'm also feeling a wee bit sick as I approach Carlisle. Still, my second son is fully briefed with what to do next.
As for Seilant (yet another - of the many - multiple identities for the group of B's which include Swarm). You post;
"No copyright infringement / performing rights issues if Mr. Gore has released the film into the public domain"
Either you and your hive are exceedingly innocent/naive or you have little understanding how the Great Bore has made millions over the last two years....gor blimey mate, if I was Arnie S and I made a film and Tesco's sold it does that mean I lose copyright and any Tom, Dick or whatever decided then to show it to the public in a public space and charge money, albeit a sassie quid, that means I lose my royalty?
I think not.
Defending the right of creative artists (ie the Goretex man) to protect their income!
ps Nick B - sort out these multiple identities. Delete them.

No, I won't !

I don't want anyone to realise there are only 3 people on Seil who know how to use the internet

No need to out you Pantie; its obvious you post as Minimum et al.

haha...Longshanks! You're completely wrong.

Pretty normal for you!

So who are YOU? (apart from Longshanks)

Actually I think the extra ID's add variety and 'colour' to the site. And without them you would probably be left talking to yourself. I have 7 different persona's and I'm afraid to admit that Seventhseil is just one of them! I really do wear a basque sometimes, occasionally to work under my shirt (gives me a thrill at least  ) Look for the signs that give it away. But knowing you, you are not very good at noticing signs

Longshanks - whoever you may be - could I ask you why you assume these are the same person?

There is no reason to assume this from IP address or indeed style of posting.

Here are the results for people who have posted from the IP address you are posting from:

Minimum [ 20 Posts ]

longshanks [ 10 Posts ]

Ticonderoga [ 3 Posts ]

NickB [ 1 Post ]

Guest [ 1 Post ]

I know for a fact that HS and NOS are different people, and although I am unable to comment definitively in the other cases I would say that you are almost certainly barking up the wrong tree. On the other hand, there is a high probability that you are Minimum . . .

Don't worry, persistent trolls will be dealt with . However, if by your reference to short 4-eyed geeks (whoops, paranoid but you struck a chord there) you are implying that they are all me then sorry to disappoint but I am too busy to feed your insanitary fantasies of racial purity. There is obviously more than one person on here who disagrees with your somewhat limited view of the world.

(Or is there perhaps some other short 4-eyed geek on here you are maligning).

As PP sez, your powers of detection are pants or slightly worse.

On a more thread-related note when Mr. Ant says the film has been released into the public domain I think he means that Al Gore has given permission for it to be shown anywhere anytime without cost - haven't looked into it myself, but knowing his agenda it seems likely. Perhaps someone else could enlighten us??

That's what you think - I suspect he'll be away watching 'musical theatre' with his 'special friends' -

PRS

Post by Pentlandpirate »

PRS, Performing Rights Society? Now the MCPS-PRS Alliance. Who are these people? I've been asked to investigate them before. They seem to be the people who turn up in a barbers shop, a hairdressers, a pub, a cafe, a garage, a waiting room, a factory workshop, an office and demand payment because you have the radio on. They seem to target one group of businesses at a time, such as a barbers, threatening court action if they are not paid. Apparently if you challenge them with court action they'll back down.

But who gets the money, possibly as much as £70 million a year? Do they really re-distribute it to all of the artists who wrote or performed the music? Or do they collect all this money and then only re-distribute it amongst their members? http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk

I know more than a few people who think there is something funny going on here.

Longshanks don't be put off! A site like this thrives on people with opposite views................like you!

I've had my share of mud thrown at me too, and sometimes I've deserved it. But please, please, PLEASE keep provoking the locals (you're so good at it), but only in cyber-Seil .............please!

I wonder how the Natural History Group squares the love of eco-tourism with the worry about Global Warming?
And if they are worried about the amount of tumbleweed that appears to be blowing around on here...an introduced species I fear!

Global warming will bring new species to the area. I'm all for it!

Actually I think Seil Natural History are to be much admired.

More so than the local caravan club, rally driving club and bible bashing club

PantyPirate requests:
"please, please, PLEASE keep provoking the locals"
To be honest I never realised I had, and it certainly wasn't my intention. So apologies to tinkie etc.
Actually, briefly rereading my posts and the reactions I can see you're right - some people have been provoked, oh dear. But I disgree that I've been provoking locals; the once who've reacted are all incomers, mainly from the east coast or central belt.
Can't hang around; I need to sort out my son who, I fear, is a bit of a poofta.

I believe it was a 50th birthday party and Moonie was there as it was next door to his local.
