Roads

Without meaning to be too abrasive, does anyone know if the very steep hill at Kilninver will be repaired soon. I know it has been mentioned in the Community Council minutes in the past, but nothing seems to have happened.
I'm glad I'm not a cyclist/motorcyclist having to contend with the huge rut in "uphill" lane - and what of the long-term effects on my little car?!

Sally, OK it's a minor problem but surely there are worse nightmares on the road, like potholes a foot deep and crumbling edges?

It's democratic apparently - you have to be nominated apparently

These people carry out their tasks completely voluntarily - you have possibly/probably never even been to a meeting ! ( in fairness, most people don't go!!)

If you're unhappy at how it all seems rehearsed and pre-planned you should go to the next meeting. ( the public one I mean )

Community council

Post by NickB »

The Community Council has seven elected members and elections are held every four years by postal ballot. As far as I know anyone is eligible to stand with the usual caveats re. criminal convictions etc.

They have very limited powers, and in matters such as roads have to confine themselves to making representations to the 'big' cooncil, who can then choose to ignore them or make pacifying noises without actually doing anything.

It would probably be a good thing if there was some young blood on the Community Council, but most 'yoof' can't be bothered - it is a lot of work after all, and it is a lot easier to content themselves with making provocative comments on internet forums.

I think the chaps doing the waterworks are doing a great job, even better now they are nearly over the bridge.
