I would like to make a suggestion about the use of grammar in your post. Here's the suggestion, LEARN ENGLISH. You say you are disgusted with the pub, but I'm disgusted with your comprehension of the English language. I think it's time for you TO learn some grammar. THERE is no problem with Tigh an Truish, and the locals are very happy with THEIR pub.

May I suggest a dictionary or a thesaurus for later use?

Mmm...wonder if there would be a pub at all without the tourists?. It's not a charity for the locals...it's a BUSINESS! and therefore should value customers who spend money there...wherever they hail from.

Good grief, you sound like a stuck record. We all know that the pub relies on the tourist trade. Those of us who kive here and actually bother supporting the T&T also know that most tourists have a great experience there and that this complaint is a bit of a one-off. We took first-time visitors there yesterday for lunch and they loved it.

I have it on good authority (i.e. from someone who was actually there at the time) that the incident was not in fact as described by the complainant. Said person also suggested that a simple 'excuse me' or a polite cough might have remedied the situation.

I understand that you don't like the pub and don't use it, Foxglove. I also understand that you think we should all grow our forelocks longer for the tourist season.

Now, can we give it a rest?

This thread has divided the contributors into two diametrically opposed camps.

Those who are concerned about the reputation of a local hostelry, and think that maybe a lesson could be learned.
And those who can see absolutely no reason for any complaint against an establishment which they will defend with their dying breath.

As far as I can see this was a malicious complaint with no validity. Not every story has two sides.

Who have you spoken to who was there at the time? Perhaps it is you who is blinkered, as you seem determined to believe any tittle-tattle you read on the internet.

Well, not that they noticed anyway, it might be fair to say. I think it is statistically proven that in the UK people have to feel really aggrieved at something before they will complain. That suggests that the odds are in favour of there having been an issue to complain about.

And Nick you show an arrogance towards the tourists on this thread and the mobile phone thread. Their opinions are important for seasonal trade in particular, Seafari, holiday lets, restaurants, pubs, shops. Whilst some may actually go to Seil because there is no mobile signal there (don't believe me?), there must be thousands who cross onto the island muttering, "Damn I can't get a signal here", in English, French, German, Japanese, Chinese and a hundred other languages. A petition book in the TnT, Balvicar shop or Ellenabeich could get thousands of valid signatures. Tourists have emergencies, work and family to contact even on holiday and even meal reservations to book at the TnT if they can get someone to answer the phone. Nick, your're a one man band army to deter anyone from going to Seil. We've seen how you deal with a potential customer for your own business. In contrast, Foxglove demonstrates the right attitude to Seil's customers. It has nothing to do with doffing your cap.
