She was a great leader, and she showed many men how it should be done. Personally I find it disrespectful that some should want to celebrate her death. So many of those who are talking about having parties in the streets, and rioting in the cities weren't even alive when she was PM and are totally ignorant of the good she did in modernising Britain. Too long the country was stuck in the past. Our industry that was the bedrock of the industrial revolution survived the wars, unlike so much of it in mainland Europe and the Far East where it sprung up afresh after hostilities ended. In Britain we were stuck with coal mines still based on producing for the steam age, and industry still trying to find a use for itself providing armaments, uniforms and technology for war. Margaret Thatcher recognised that some industry needed to be able to stand on its own feet, and was prepared to let those that had no future go to the wall, and she created an environment that would allow new business to generate to replace it.

Some people think Margaret closed down the coal mines. But it was the Labour government that allowed more pits to close than she did.

Margaret Thatcher was a patriot. She stood up to the Germans, the French, the Russians, the Argentines. She always put Britain first. And did she ever look like she did it for her own ego and self gratification? No.

Shame on those who think of rioting in our streets: "It's fun to smash up and burn our cities". The wealth gap may have grown but I'll bet all of us are more prosperous and better off than we would have been if Britain hadn't been dragged forward by Margaret Thatcher. Some people can't be grateful for anything.

If the protesters find it is raining on Wednesday that will be Maggie p---- on them. If it's sunny you might see two fingers sticking down from the heavens.

Look at the forum as being a ‘crabbit depository’ where folk can offload their crabbitness, so enabling them to enjoy the scenery. Remember, what you get on forums are online personas which do not coincide exactly with any ‘real’ person out there in the world.

So, there's Foxglove and Sleepy trying to hijack this "Ding Dong" farce into a continuing flirtration.
And good luck to them in their search for personal enjoyment.
On the "Ding Dong" subject, there are a lot of people hereabouts who seem upset about M. Thatcher's reign.
Most PM's only have a very short reign, so have very little impact on the course of history but herself and that Blair fellow both had a good crack at the whip.
So in their time they had a chance to make a mark - which they both did.
I have yet to come across the perfect person and PM's are less likely to be so, more than the rest of us, given that getting there in the first place involves considerable deviousness and back stabbing.
So, in the case of Maggie, she did some good things and she did some bad (and I don't include the Poll Tax in that), but as far as I can see, her principal claim to fame is that she was the first female PM, but the "full Military Honours" rankles a bit.
