You're havin a larf Mr Brown! A future fair for all? We've now been lied to by two successive Labour PM's who for their own self-gratification have taken us into an illegal war costing hundreds of thousands of lives, admitted conspiring to pass control of the country to one another without a democratic vote, handed our rights to Europe without the promised referendum, created a more divided country with a greater division between rich and poor, squandered unbelievable sums on the health and education systems for little gain, failed on crime and foreign policy, bankrupt the country, been proven to lie so many times it has become laughable, raised taxes so many times we've lost count, and failed the nation's people every day for 12 years. Labour were supposedly the party of the future 12 years ago. If what we've had is a sample of the future I don't want it.

You cant trust either Labour or Conservative to do the right thing for the UK -- would do the UK good to get rid of both of them.
have to add ... there never was going to be a referendum on the 'european constitution' as it had been rejected before we had a chance to organize a referendum on it ... tory mob kept asking for a referendum on the following Lisbon treaty, government in power never said there would be one .. too late now anyway

I couldn't agree more with you.
Me and a lot of my friends are going to vote BNP at the next election. We were a bit unsure at first if there would be a candidate here but we have asked around and apparently there definitely will be a candidate here. Was there one last time? I don't know because I wasn't here then.
Anyone else goimg for BNP? I hope so. One of my friends is going to join and put up posters. Bollocks to the Labour and Conservative whingers. Its our democratic rite.

I would love to vote BNP as my way of sticking two fingers up to all those politicians who have let us down so badly. But I probably won't, 1) because the BNP won't ditch some of its more lunatic policies and members and doesn't seem to have the depth of the right qualities to form a government and 2), because a vote for the BNP will split the opposition vote and help Brown get back in again. But I hate the way the BNP are laughed out of court, as on the rigged Question Time, but the media and mainstream politicians aren't listening to the people. We like alot of what the BNP are saying.

Despite one or two minor indiscretions overblown by the Labourites, the most capable and fairest politicians around recently (maybe apart from Vince Cable!) have belonged to the SNP who have managed to deal with consensual minority government by a process of thinking on their feet, give and take and always putting the people first. In my view, Peter, they deserve another shot at being circus and fairground masters but this time with a full majority crack of the whip!

To be, frankly, of an SNP persuasion myself, I find myself in the tactical voting quandary in this constituency whereby I’ll more than likely be voting Libdem (talking UK election here).
I’d rather swallow razor blades than vote BNP, though….

I find myself in agreement with Mona for once. Scottish politics has been a beacon of relative light in a murky place. I assume she is talking about the Holyrood elections next year though, as it seems unlikely that the SNP will get a majority at Westminster
Here's a reminder of the results from the 2005 general election for Argyll and Bute:
Scottish Socialist Party 881
Scottish Labour Party 9696
Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party 10150
Scottish Liberal Democrats 15786
SNP 6716

If your reasons for voting BNP, Maggie, are by way of protest then there may be better ways. Can I suggest one?
Deed Poll your name to "X. None Of The Above" and stand yourself.
You will appear at the bottom of the ballot paper and you may well get in!
All our main parties deserve a kick up the backside so I'd vote for None of the above.
SNP? Sorry Mona. I know I said I'd give them my vote previously but after learning of Salmond's expenses (claiming for meals in London when he was in Edinburgh), Salmond's and Srurgeon's "cash for access", Sturgeon's attempt to persude a judge not to jail a drug-dealing asylum seeker, and MacAskill's release of a convicted terrorist because he only had three months to live (six months ago) I have concluded that the SNP are just as rotten as Labour, Cons, Lib Dems et al.
I might be pertsuaded to vote for a Green Party candidate if one stands.
But BNP, come on Maggie; not them !

The BNP is an English disease. Please don't contaminate Scottish politics with that.

Lifeattheedge...there was a time when the SNP were thought of just as poorly. No doubt someone will pop up here and say they still do. Besides, the BNP is no threat to the SNP.

To be honest I do not like the tone of that; as an English person who has settled here it is vaguely insulting, particularly the disease reference.
Just for your information we all intend to vote BNP because we are all sick of all the other parties on offer. We know they will not win but it is a protest vote.
For your information this is a British election we are talking about and the BNP is a legally constituted British political party. I am told it has a very strong presence in Scotland (not just England) and that it has held marches in Glasgow and put up candidates in election here many times and that its party political broadcasts are transmitted here.
Can you offer a better way to protest against all the other corrupt and incompetent political parties?
Just remembered; the BNP came 4th out of 10 in that byelection in Glasgow after that corrupt Speaker resigned. An English disease indeed. Pah !

Before voting BNP, please read the history of German National Socialism 1932-45 and reflect on its consequences.

Dear me, Maggie: 'corrupt and incompetent political parties'? Remember BNP Nick's performance on Question Time?!
Do you think he offers 'a future fair for all'? Do you really want to encourage him?
Be careful lest you get what you vote for.

Life on the edge....BNP Nick was the ONLY one, including Attenborough, who came out of Question Time, with any credibility. The rest were a disgrace.
And as for Adolf he had some good ideas. He just took them too far, like most dictators.

BNP are a very small voice in Scotland, came 10th in 2007 Scottish elections with 1.2% (UKIP 0.4%) .. gives a rough guide.
If you want a protest vote against the big partys vote for an Independent candidate ... Independents have a history of doing well in elections in Argyll & Bute
