Having recently aquired an external hard drive, I am anxious to transfer everything from my computer's hard drive on to it.
So far, even being able to communicate with the thing has been impossible.
It came with a small CD (the only instructions) which mentioned a driver and which I have been unable to download, and a user manual which consisted of one page and is completely unintelligible.
It has 3 input sockets -
1) A USB cable to supply power - this has been connected
2) A USB cable to presumably feed information in and out - this also has been connected.
3) A SATA socket for which no lead was supplied , and no information on what it is for.
Any information on how I could get this thing operational would be greatly appreciated.

Re: External hard drive

Jim,
What operating system are you using? If it is Windows 98 you will need to install the USB driver, which is presumably on the CD. If not you can download it HERE
(If you have XP or Vista ignore this - you should just be able to see the USB drive in My Computer when it is plugged in. If you ARE still using Win98 you should dump it ASAP and get XP)
