In a recent edition of a local paper, a columnist noted that one of our MSP's had overstretched the limit on motoring penalty points, and dealt with this in a lighthearted manner.
The limit of the suspension from being behind the wheel on a public highway was given as 5 weeks - I find this a bit derisory and hardly worth the effort of keeping the points down to a reasonable tally.
Perhaps someone with more judicial knowledge than me, can explain if this is normal procedure.

One of our resident poets has done this subject in rather more detail, and very entertainingly. But there is one discrepancy between his account and the one given as a view from the tower in our local rag.
Four month's suspension works out at about 16 weeks (probably a day or two more, given that February is the only tidy month). But our knowledgeable columnist gave the figure as 5 weeks suspension. My maths did not stand me in good stead at the scholarly level, but there seems to be a considerable discrepancy between these two figures.
Perhaps one of the readers of these pages can throw some light on the difference between these two accounts.
Hopefully, these remarks will have others hot-footing it to see the literary effort on this subject in the Arts Forum - MS peed off.
