The Dumblies

Post by nobody »

They went to hell in a Hummer they did
In a Hummer they went to hell
In spite of all their friends could say
On a Summer’s morn on a scorching day
In a Hummer they went to hell
And when the Hummer crisped up and dried
And everyone cried “You’ll all be fried”
They called aloud, “Switch on the aircon”
We don’t care a button, we’re off, we’re gone
In a Hummer we’ll go to hell
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
They came from the land of dumber and dumber
And they went to hell in a Hummer

They drove away in their Hummer they did
In a Hummer they drove so fast
With only the smoky exhaust as a veil
And the throaty roar of the engine’s wail
Like a tank in the desert so vast
And everyone said who saw them go
‘Oh won’t they be soon upset you know!
For the sky is dark and the drive is long
And happen what may it’s extremely wrong
In a Hummer to drive so fast!
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
They were making the most of the long hot Summer
And they went to hell in a Hummer

The desert soon came in, it did
The sand it soon came in;
So to keep them cool, they wrapped their feet
In the Financial Times all folded neat
And they slaked their thirst with a gin
And they passed the night in a roadside scar
And each of them said ‘How wise we are!
Though the sky be dark and the road be long
Yet we never can think we were rash or wrong
While round in our Hummer we spin!
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
Their bodies grow fat and their lives are a bummer
And they went to hell in a Hummer

Then all night long they drove away
And when the floods came down
They whistled and warbled a techno song
To the echoing sound of ‘Nothing is wrong’
In the shade of the Greenpeace frown
‘O Timballo! How happy we are
When driving our Hummer to a places far
And all night long in the moonlight pale
We cover the earth in a smoky veil
In the shade of the Greenpeace frown
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
Their bodies are stuffed and their lives a bummer
And they went to hell in a Hummer

They drove to the edge of the ice they did
To a land all covered in sea
And they bought a satnav and energy drink
A celebrity mag and icicles pink
And a cup of marsupial tea
And they bought a rig and some black black oil
And a string of excuses done up in a coil
And forty bottles of chemical glee
And no end of stuff that they got for free
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
Their bodies are bloated, they all need a plumber
And they went to hell in a Hummer

And in twenty years they all came back
In twenty years or more
And everyone said ‘ How fat you’ve grown
For they’ve been to the Lakes, and the Torrible Zone
And the hills of the Chankly Bore
Then they cut them all up and had a great feast
Of Dumblies with dumplings of beautiful yeast
And everyone said ‘If we’d gone as well
If in a Hummer we’d gone to hell
To the hills of the Chankly Bore . . .
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Dumblies live
Their bodies are eaten, their lives were a bummer
And they went to hell in a Hummer
