I heard on the grape vine there's a meeting on the island at 1pm this Sunday with planners etc but i have not seen any notices so is this happening - could anyone from Easdale Island shed some light on this please  :D
Thankyou :D

How does this plan fit in with the nuclear waste repository on Easdale reported in today's Oban Times?

Well, Seventh this sort of thing IMHO would be better on the other side of the water. I'm only envious of those still with the freedom of youth, but is it really a good idea to have 20-30 young people with lots of energy confined at night on such a small island? Will the island's inhabitants really think it's funny when a boistrous crowd from the inner city has hijacked the wheelbarrows and had a round the island race at midnight before throwing them off the rocks into the sea: and when pursued by angry residents have pinched a boat or two: empty beer cans chucked over garden walls: no Polis in sight to restore order; no easy access to medical treatment if one has a stupid accident. Am I just the eternal pessimist or just realistic about how much a group of youths will find to keep them interested and out of trouble on Easdale?

Well as an Island that allegedly survives on the tourist dollar it would seem that having a captive market would be good. As for the all being young....so? not all hostels cater or are attractive the average back packer type. Fair enough lots of young boisterous folk arn't everyone's cup of tea but if you depend on tourism it would seem a good idea to actually attract tourists of all types and give them some reasonable affordable accommodation, and at least let some of the local youngsters have a bit of night life that does not involve watching an end stage alcoholic drink themselves to death. Although if it does happen and there is trouble at least the islanders would have something to genuine to complain about.....

Is this hostel a half-way house for people being rehabilitated into society? Or is it like a youth hostel?

How many young folk do you actually see in a "youth" hostel these days??? And I don't think that the average "boisterous" young hooligan would like to be marooned on Easdale Island thankyou very much...leave the youth of today alone, it’s the old ones you need to watch out for – fisty-cuffs n all...

Eric,

Don't you mean 'dishonorable?'

:bananas :bananas

Time for a causeway - drag these people into the 21st century - I thought I lived in Brigadoon!

I'm now having trouble fixing my 'x' to the SNP banner after this wee episode and to think I almost bought a cottage on Easdale Island many years ago
