Now it's nearly here (March 16th) how many of you have ordered it, and which provider are you going with?

Well, we've decided to go with BT Broadband now they have increased the bandwidth to 2MB, and will hopefully be connected and wirelessly networked on the 24th March. Of course, the 2MB is only download, uploads are still restricted to 256kb unless you go for one of the very expensive business packages. Useage limit is 15GB per month.

At last . . . it was getting to be embarrassing being the only non broadband web development company in the UK.

The BT offering is £25.99 per month and does not include any e-mail facilities, which is not a problem in our case as we have a multitude of mail servers we can use. It is worth bearing in mind though if you do not have any domain-based or web-based mail service available.

When are the rest of you getting connected?

I'm going with BT business broadband plus the business pack - my web site will be transferred over to BT as soon as our bband goes live. At the moment it's being hosted free by an Argyll Animal Aid supporter on Mull, but, as it hasn't any email facilities, I thought I might as well have all the stuff in the same place.
BTW, I phoned and cancelled my Wanadoo account about 6 months ago as email was taking so long. About 3 months later I realised that they were still taking the monthly charge from my credit card. When I called them and complained they said that I had been told to write in - and that they had it on record that the girl would have told me that! Well, I know she hadn't, but as it was my word against hers I got nowhere and lost around £45. Be warned!

Had a letter from BT today saying the exchange isn't being enabled until May:( Think I'll go and jump off a cliff now.

Cancelled my broadband package in light of this.

Is this anything to do with the myserious cable laying up by Knipoch?

That had crossed my mind, too. Except it wasn't BT laying the cable - as far as I could see it was the council. But you never know.

So, will you be ordering broadband from somewhere else instead? I had been counting down the days and couldn't believe it when the letter arrived.

My understanding was that the cable was already in place all the way to the exchange. I'm just wondering if, when the time came, it turned out it wasn't . . .

To add insult to injury, the two extra microfilters I ordered from Amazon came today!

I got out of my car today and looked at the cable being laid as far as KIlninver. A google on the name stamped on it reveals that it is probably the broadband cable.

I am thinking Tiscali at the moment . . . anyone know anything?

The way the cable is lying in the road today, I don't give much for its chances

I was on Tiscali during its previous life as Lineone. It was OK as dial-up, no complaints from me until I cancelled it and they kept charging me every month as they insisted I hadn't cancelled. Might be better now it's Tiscali.

I am being bombarded with junk mail from Aberdeenshire Council and BT suggesting I upgrade to broadband. I would love to, so follow their links to be told I live too far from the exchange

When questioned, BT said they have no plans to change anything, and had I considered Satellite Broadband I Have but it is VERY expensive.

Yesterday, another leaflet arrived from BT saying I should upgrade to broadband

Darn! Thought I was logged in! Perhaps I should not be allowed near computers after all

Well, I can tell you all about sat. broadband having used it myself - still have the dish in place, and still have the PC card. It's damn expensive as you also need a dial-up account before you get onto the satellite account, and the connection is very iffy. If you go down that road, be careful who you go with. Watch the sat. broadband forums before you go with anyone.

Any definite news about the arrival of Broadband here? There's a lot of cable slung along the verge and over fences down at Kilninver . . .

We're still scheduled for May 18th, Nick, but I'm not holding my breath as we got fairly near the date last time, and then they put it back by another 2 months.

The cable down by the road at Kilninver is broadband cable according to a google search on the make printed on it. My husband, who reckons he knows about these things (!), says that the drains dug out by the roadside all along there, are to do with the telephone system and are where they send the burrowing machine to bury the cable. I don't know if that's true or not, but what do I know?

Whatever, I can't understand why they haven't buried it yet, unless there's some kind of hassle with the owner of the land involved.

If it is the damn broadband cable, I wish they'd get their finger out!

Incredibly, after my recent conversation with BT, when I did my weekly "can you get Broadband" search yesterday, it said it was now available to me at a max of 1Mb

When I get home this weekend, I am going to apply for it with aol as I have been with them for years now and good service (despite Nick B's complaints! ) but need to be logged on to my account, not just the website!

Not holding my breath mind!

Broadband has been put back until July 2oth aaaaaaaagh!

I've gone too far this time and actually purchased a router - the technology will undoubtably have been superceded by the time BB gets here - if indeed it ever does.

How do you get this info? I have ordered BT Broadband and been given a service date of 25th May, and so far no-one has bothered to tell me anything different.

The date is on the BT Wholesale Checker Page via www.adslguide.org.uk

For Telephone Number 01852300xxx on Exchange BALVICAR

Your exchange will have ADSL broadband by 20th July 2005.

Now if you were still in Skite you would already have broadband and not nearly so much rain as you have now Nick.
