Love the sarcasm NickMacB.
That apology for a Christmas tree is just so tacky and so tasteless ! It wouldn't be out of place in a building site in Lowestoft

For a tastefully decorated tree (not Christmas) anyone remember the day young Diana got married and her Mum and step-dad provided free drinks at the TnT with fireworks over the hill behind Old Clachan Farmhouse? Well I recall the tree at the end of the carpark in front of the Bridge that evening was beautifully decorated. Now that was tasteful.

It wasn't intended to be sarcastic

I think it is great, certainly cheered me up as I was coming home the other night from Oban. I don't understand your remark about not being out of place on a building site either - it IS on a building site, therefore totally in keeping.

Anyone think there's a correlation between disliking and bad-mouthing the sewage works and wealthy Conservatives? :?:

What have diana and her mother got to do with chrismas, trees or for that matter royalty??? Keep your forelock tugging to your self wet pants....

Thread drift alert . . .

Hope you won't all start shouting at me for being a repressive fascist censoring power crazed maniac again, but I am going to split this thread so that the original one about the Oban Times and the sewage works stays reasonably on topic and move everything from four posts back (Longshanks' post) into a new thread - which I will give a suitable title, Christmas Trees perhaps . . .

Nothing will be deleted or altered, but if the letter is published in the OT the thread will still have some focus to it.

Well said N. Maybe a good idea would be to delete Seventh's recent "contribution" as we wouldn't want people to think that there are folks on Seil who disrespect the dead in such an outrageous manner.

Oooh I see something's got on your goat ham shanks...... if they are dead they don't know any different....
Have you got a colection of tabloid front pages pasted to your wall at home, with ten years worth of drivel given diana?
What can we expect from you next...... more gems from the Daily Mail/Express/Record

Sorry, this is not really related to the thread, but can I ask why the "posted" time seems to be an hour out, other than when I scroll down when I am writing the reply? I almost thought I'd missed lunch!

Very strange, it's all okay now. Apologies everyone, it must have been my computer.

Sorry, me again! The time posted goes an hour ahead after I've logged out. Is it my computer Nick? My clock seems o.k.

You set the time zone in your Profile, Min, which you set up when you registered. Unfortunately it doesn't do the Daylight Saving thing automatically, so you have to go back into your profile twice a year and reset it.

You haven't 'got my goat' Seventh (dread to think what you might do to it if you had) but you have saddened me that someone on this island could be so rude and disrespectful towards Frances S-K. She chose to live here for many years, loved Seil and contributed so much to our community. I knew no-one (apart from you now) who would say a bad word about her.
For you to understand our debt to her consult her Will (all Wills are a matter of public record and freely available to those of a curious bent) and you will see that she split her estate three ways; to a local church, to our local RNLI, and to the village hall appeal.
Your disrespect of the dead and your viputerative words about Lady Diana merely reflect very poorly on your character and illustrate just how low our society has fallen.
Your references to tabloid front pages on my walls, The Daily Mail etc are somewhat lost on me but presumably meant as an insult for which I shall, as always, forgive you, but not forget.

What exactly did she do for our community, other than attract stalkers, press men and dim witted forelock tuggers like your self who "wanted to see where Dianas mother lived".

Both were unremarkable women who did no more or no less than any one else, only by chance of birth have we had the mis-fortune to hear about them.......

Oh, God, here you all go again.

Getting back to the Christmas tree - I think it's great.

BTW, did you see that all the yellow men are missing? Sitting in front of a warm fire if they've got any sense.

Interesting that you are of the opinion, Seventh, that F.S-K. contributed no more than you. Never would have guessed that you were time and cash rich.

Ah well, I see little point in pursuing this with you Eric and Seventh so I'll leave it at that and allow you to wallow in your petty world of neo Marxist envy.

I recognise, though, that come the revolution I'll have to keep close tabs on you to prevent you bringing your tumbril to my door.

As far as I remember her cash wasn't her own......there are many people on the island who gave money to the hall, church and to the RNLI, why has her legacy more cache than the others...

Whats next are you going to call me a pinko?

Your sicophancy towards members of the aristocracy is laughable. I'll be amazed if you have a forelock left.....

And what were you hoping..... she had left you something in her will????? I hope you had a legitimate reason to peruse someone elses will....eech
