I differ because I have a sense that your original post regarding the lad's insurance (which he does have btw) was a disguised whinge about locals using jetskis.
If that is the case then I make three points:
1. The waters around Seil are for everyone to use, not just yachties.
2. The jetski concerned is probably worth more than many of the sailing boats which disfigure the bay......which should really be only used by the fishing boats, as in the past.....I'm sure he would not wish to write it off by colliding with a yacht
3. Its long been a a bit of a game amongst locals of winding up yachties. He was only having a bit of fun.

Well, I was only a bit wound up as I wasn't on board at the time and the guy seemed to know what he was doing. There have been a few horrendous accidents in recent years involving jetskis though, and they are not always piloted by people familiar with the sea. If it is someone local then I am sure they know what they are doing and of course they have as much right as anyone else to enjoy the water. I am afraid I assumed it was a visitor as it is such a rare sight here. I wouldn't like to see loads of holidaymakers bringing jetskis with them though - would you?
Your comments about yachts are just silly, and this time I do refuse to rise to the bait.

Nick B, it seems to make too much of a difference to you whether the guy's local or not! How does being local mean that he knows what he is doing?! Or otherwise! The fact is that, no matter the type of vessel, it is both courteous and normal good practice to travel slowly through any anchorage, whether occupied by fishing boats or yachts. This convention ensures safety and environmental wellbeing for all concerned. In short, the guy racing amongst the boats sounds like a discourteous twerp, just as you initially implied. Clearly a relative or friend of Longshanks then........ -

Yeah, you're right - fortunately they usually hurt or kill themselves rather than other people, but the potential for a lot of damage to other vessels is still there. The bigger fishing boats are probably pretty safe, but Jetskis are quite solid and can do a lot of damage to wooden and fibreglass hulls - not at all difficult to do thousands of poundsworth of damage or even sink a smaller boat. See HERE for an example of a boat hit by a jetski.
As Spiderman says, screaming round an anchorage or among moored vessels at high speed in any type of craft is simply poor seamanship and asking for trouble. The only difference that being local makes is that they presumably have a little more understanding of the sea and boats than someone on their once-yearly hols to the seaside.

The poor Bas$%^& was only having a bit of fun and did anyone get hurt??? Yup, someone could have but thats the same risk you take when you drive your car to Oban. Why don't you all lighten up.
Furthermore, I think all the fishing boats in that bay are fiberglass, and a wooden yacht (built well) would surely come out on-top of a jet-ski, nay?

A car is a useful means of transport so doesn't have to be thrashed around a track to be justified. But a jetski is not generally used for transport, only for a thrill. Designated areas should be set up for them where they can dodge in and out of markers (set up like a race track if you like) and avoid endangering themselves or other innocent parties.
