Easdale ferry - what's the problem?

Post by McGlaic »

There was an engine fire on the Easdale ferry. The fire was put out using equipment provided for that purpose. The ferry then continued its journey using the back-up engine. The engine had been serviced within the previous three weeks.

I don't see the problem. Neither do I see why the Oban Times is printing unsubstantiated claims by the islanders that the ferry is badly maintained or unseaworthy. The ferry has always seemed more than adequate for the task to me.

Perhaps these people don't really want to live on an island.

 Sounds familiar. Think the number of people not wanting to live on an island (1) (slightly inconvenient, entirely surrounded by water, no shopping mall) must have increased since I was there. Sadly, these are the same people who once wanted to live on an island (2) (it's Sooo tranquil, we have a mink in our garden, oh for the peace of a Force 10 storm)...but have changed their minds and are just about to experience negative equity. And the OT is usually desperate for anything vaguely resembling news. They may still have a journo (category 2) living there, which helps. Pass on my best wishes to the ferrymen.
