You all asleep in never-never land?

Post by a nonny mouse »

Where were you all yesterday? Hardly any posts, no slagging off SS or the Oyster Bar?

I was surprised nobody mentioned the Green Goblin's latest deadly doings when his merry crew sliced through the BT fibre-optic cable with their digger thingy and caused phone chaos for 8 hours. With between 8 to 10 BT vans here all day this will cost the water people dear. You have to ask yourself who will ultimately pay for this critical error - our water bills loaded perhaps?

I'm just hoping that no emergency services were needed on the island. Without a mobile phone signal too we would have been stuffed if anyone had a heart attack, was drowning, or had a house fire etc.

Completely fair DG. At least they had a nice day in their tent.

Wait a minute. Wait a cotton - picking minute. You're not the green goblin are you? If so, I claim my £10.

Yeah? Well, I'll have to take your word for that as I've not met either - as far as I know.

But, where were you yesterday Spidey? You fell down on your job, you could have repaired that cable in a billionth of a second.

:?:  8) Sorry, Nonny, but, as so many Seil folk are against even havin' a mobile phone signal, I thought they'd probably be in heaven without electricity......  8)

Spidey, put your hearing aid in. We had electricity, it was the phone that was off

Spidees

Why can't you go and get yourself a satellite phone and 'gie us piece'!

I'm sure the great and good of the Seil Forum would be more than grateful to have a whip (or should that be wipe) round!

Think about it my latex clad friend - that would give you the opportunity to moan about some other minor inconvienience and blow it out of all proportion too! Ja?

Mobile phone signal

Post by NickB »

.
My nearly new semi-state of the art Ericcson died not long after we left these shores last year, and when we were briefly back in Scotland in October our youngest son gave Kathy an ancient Nokia he could no longer bear to be seen with.

Shortly after we arrived home Kathy was astounded to receive a call from her Mum and was able to have a conversation provided she stood in the corner of our living room pressed against a window.

Our other old but not quite so old Nokia can be used for sending texts from the same location (with only one bar of signal). The Ericcson never could.

So if you are one of those who bemoans the lack of a mobile signal on Seil I suggest getting yourself an old Nokia 'brick' and trying that. Makes sense . . . the new modern phones don't have space for a decent aerial (or a decent sized battery for that matter).

I have a Sony Erricson which works under the trees at the end of the garden, providing I stand on tip toes and hold the phone with arm extended upwards. I suppose I could get a ladder out and stand on that, but it's a lot eaier to use the land line ...

So there it is Mr Spidee.....

Stand on your tippy toes under the trees at the end of Nonnys Garden or push your face up against NickB's window - presumably you can do this from the outside to allow a certain amount of privacy for Nick and family. Although the thought of a man in a gimp mask with his face pressed against the window may be quite alarming for some.

Although I would recommend that you invest in a well made Scandinavian sat phone

erm . . . I was recommending the acquisition of an old, solid Nokia (possibly investing in a new battery for it) rather than suggesting my window sill as an ideal location for calling from :?

8) 8) Maybe it just suits the way he walks?

....and talks! :) :)

Sorry about the error, Nonny - it's hard keeping up with detail while still stresed in NY. :) :)

The whipround sounds fine though......

It's Mrs Eric at the moment - Eric's away studying english in Trondheim as the xenophobic element make no effort to understand his more salient contributions.

:( :( 8) Hi Eric, nobody here is xenophobic about you and Codswallop. It's more a matter of being anti-gibberish. However, we note that both of you are improving lately and ask you both to stay and share your obvious wisdom with us. :) 8)

No, Blubby, we don't do Royalty in NY or Seil - it's just me and the Spidey family, Peter (Parker) and Mary Jane (Watson) (no relative).. :) 8)

But yet you log on and post that? Nothing better to do NOS? Perhaps u should slag off the local amenities whilst your on here, or spark a wee debate on a local matter? Rather than just slagging off every single user on here!
I will look for the good and beauty in everything around me .... carpe diem!
