Fire and Rescue Service

Why is it that many remote areas of Argyll have nice new well equiped fire stations, while Seil is left with a garden shed? Surely we deserve better or do we have to wait until there is a serious house fire or God forbid a fatality before Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service find enough in their budget to fund the new station? Apparently they have bought land beside the new hall and have planning permission and everything. What do people think - do we deserve a better fire and rescue service?

hello two beers, welcome to the forum. :) I don't think we can justify the horrendous expense of a full fire station on seil. the fire brigade can be here within 15 minutes from Oban (tis true - I have 1st hand experience and in the meantime (in theory) our worthy volunteers may have made it to their respective sheds and starting tackling an fire. Fortunately we have had few serious fires on the island in years and those that spring to mind were on Easdale Island (Wolfsons and Norah Kings) and the problem with fire service on there will always be an issue unless they get fixed link to the mainland.

Nah! lets keep with what we got, support it and spend the money on something thats really needed.

Adios amigo! 8)
