More moderation required?? - you vote

I am alarmed to see that some of our most esteemed posters have left or are threatening to leave because of an upsurge of racist and sexist comments from some allegedly Southern trolls.
This board has always been moderated with a very light touch, but I am currently minded to evict a few of our recent subscribers if they don't tone it down a bit. Humour and satire are very welcome, but puerile sarcasm and provocative trolling are not.
There is a poll attached to this post - please vote.

Even though I check the forum daily, I have not been posting so as to not encourage (feed) the trolls. Hopefully they will get bored as to not getting the attention they crave, and leave. Or they geted banned. Which ever comes first.
Problem is, if they geted banned, they have a tendency to just keep coming back under different names. It becomes a game to them.
Just my opinion, milage may vary.
Cheers
Bob

Don't worry Maibob,
If the common wish is that we set it up then the Seil Troll Patrol will very quickly catch those posting under new identities.
Please don't stop posting on here - we would miss you.

I think for every English Tw*t you will find there is a Scots (Scotch) tw*t. I couldn't help a smile at the questions in the vote, but really they a little naughty and only carry on the tone which has led to to the vote.
The site should be self regulated, by mutual agreement of the posters: no racism, no slagging each other, nothing personal. By all means use banter, but appreciate not everyone understands what banter is.
Spidey come back. And any others who feel driven away by the insults. Spidey your world saving powers are appreciated if only requiring a little less KAPPOWWW and a bit more social humour in line with the tranquil setting of Seil.
At least the Seil Chat site is being used unlike the Oban one. It's a small community and it's true that there aren't many earth shattering local events to be discussed. So making something out of nothing is not easy. Better to talk than not talk, but no personal insults or slagging each other off...I say. Culloden was the last battle between the English and Scots, and hopefully it put any infighting to bed for ever. We still are Great Britain, and the better for the fact that we are together.
PS My wife is shouting in the background, do they have television on Easdale?

Freedom of speech is absolutely fundamental

I'm not really minded to ban anyone, the best response to trolls is to ignore them, in my view. If no-one rises to the bait they disappear of their own accord soon enough.

So stay Spidey and continue to spin your web of words for us.
It's hardly freedom of speech if you flee because others are abusing the privilege.
My personal preference is that we deal with problems here without resorting to the big stick, but if the good guys go into hiding then I worry.

I can't believe this poll. I have never called the Scotch people tw*ts. That I believe WOULD be a racist remark. However I am not the web administrator/SensorshipControl. See for yourself. I think you would agree this is just taking the fun a little too far. You will be happy to know my posting will stop and I will just look on from now on.
Below is the dreadful poll
Yes - it's not good for social harmony on Seil
Yes - they are annoying English tw*ts
Yes - we want Spidey back
No - freedom of speech is important
No - I like this type of humour
No - I am a provocative English tw*t

The way that reasonable and potentially interesting topics so soon degenerate into mindless slagging off is really pissing me off, and has put me off from joining in, in case I become the butt of someone's personal prejudices. Count me out, while ever this is going on.

I would vote if I could figure out how to......there's nothing to click on, maybe something to do with cookies?
Don't let the b******* grind you down. On either 'side'.
I love the comment from 'Reykjavik'! Maybe the Irish will join in! Oh, and the Welsh, they might have a historical and linguistic input.
And the French (Normans who took over England). And the Italians (Romans).
Any Poles reading this? Come and join us. I hope you can afford a house or two on Seil. (We could do with some new builders).
There's no end to it, really.

WOWWW!!!!!!!!!! KAPPOWWWW!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This site is alive at last! I thought so many members had died and gone to heaven! But they are there and now having their say and joining in at last. We don't need censorship, freedom of speech is important. Anonymity is good to allow things to be said that would otherwise be left to fester. But what has been shown is that it does need a little moderation:moderation on the slagging which might be taken personally by some, and moderation in the form of leadership from Nick. He's been missed for too long!

Dear me whats been going on...... Due to technical difficultys I have been unable to interject in the last few months, (thank goodness I hear you say) but there seems to have been a lot of tomfoolry. We should be sticking to the real issues like Big Brother and who will win DanceX.....

aye, and the price of fish.
Well, especially fish suppers which are a scandalous £4.80 in Oban now.
Well . . .

It's 9-10 in favour of censorship.
Indecisive.
As far as I am concerned there will be no censorship or banning . . . police yourselves and have fun. Timbo and I will just carry on weeding out the spammers as usual. This thread has now been destickied and will be allowed to slide down into the mists of forum history.
Anyone who has any serious complaints or problems with other posters is welcome to PM me.

Cool, I've just got here and everyone's been nice so far, no racism of sexist comments at all.
I'm a hermaphrodite chameleon anyhoo!
