Mini Music Festival Cancelled

Despite all the musical side being in place for this, including finance for the hire of th PA, the set up and operation of the sound and light system, staging, all the bands donating their time for free, donations/grants from Scottish Seafarms, the local area committee of Argyll and Bute and Dougie Hill etc the hall committee did not get its act together to organise the non music side of this event.

The event is therefore off!

There is a great deal of conjecture flying around locally about who said and did what so I will not make further comments except to say that Dougie Robertson, my cohort in all this, and I are absolutely stunned by the hall committee's attitude that this event 'was too big!'

This was an occasion that was to cost the hall absolutely nothing and was a platform from which they could make a lot of money from. It had attracted a lot of interest from inside and outside Argyll with many people expressing interest in attending what they thought was an event that appealled to broad musical interests - a good family day out.

I thank those who telephoned for information and for all the support and encouragement expressed to us from near and far.

A lot of work was put into this by Dougie and I to make this happen and to have it cancelled by the hall committee I find quite disgraceful and shameful.

Yours,

Donald Campbell

All I can say is, what a shame this never went ahead as it would have been an excellent fund-raiser for the hall, good advertising for Seil, and a lot of fun to boot.

I'm sure there are two sides to every story, maybe someone from the hall committee would like to explain the exact reasons behind the cancelling of the event?

Sorry to hear the festival was cancelled. Now a days people find themselves wraped up in thier everyday lives to the point where they don't get to talk to thier neighbours. Festivals such as this allow the residents an opportunity to get out and be neighbours once again. Truly a shame that it didn't go through.

Cheers

Bob

Yes its a bit of a shame when the people you are raising money for cant get their finger out to help really...........is there a connection between the slow moving community council and the slow moving Hall committee, perhaps some of the same people and of the same vintage......

It is sad that the music festival was cancelled, it was to be a great event, for all the good reasons quoted. Donnie Campbell and Dougie Robertson did tremendous work, as did many others, to arange things. The hall committee did not get the administration in place fast enough, nor did we really come to grips with the event until it was too late. The cancellation was agreed between Donnie and the hall chairman when Donnnie discovered that it was too late to obtain an entertainment licence.
The members of the hall committee who attend meetings are quite few, and very busy. This event proved bigger than they had capacity to handle in the time. That they made a brave try showed a spirit way beyond their resourses. We do need more people, and yes, younger people, to get in there and help local committees. Noone younger was excluded when the hall committee (and Comunity Council) were elected. By all means criticise, but back it up by offering time and energy for all the boring meetings and admin. Together we can beat the world.
