" I can't believe it !!"

One of the UK's best known historians has likened the SNP to the Nazis and the Saltire to the swastika !!
Is it possible that the 50+ new Scottish National MPs have rattled the 'Establishment' cage to such an extent that panic is setting in?
Historians are by training highly objective and wouldn't normally embellish or twist historical accounts to suit personal taste, well their not supposed to.
I'm not 'denigrating' the man, I'm simply pointing out that he has taken this objectionable line, though I do wonder what would happen if a 'Nat' compered the Tories to the Khmer Rouge? (Mmm, I think I can guess though)

Well Jim, you often claim that the local 'Nat Zealots' jump on the slightest faux pas committed by any other party/individual.
The one mentioned above is a humdinger but nobody has commented, not even yourself.
Does this suggest that the 'Nats' are more even minded and forgiving than you like to portray them? or were Starkey's comments just so reprehensible that nothing more needs to be said?

.
Starkey drew parallels between Scottish men showing their knees in kilts and the Nazi enthusiasm for lederhosen. He also compared the saltire to the swastika.
These are the demented ravings of a lunatic, not comments that anyone would take seriously.
I hope.

Well Bill you have invited a comment from myself, and I would be the last one to deny you that pleasure.
I have investigated the source material you have taken the trouble to post on to this website. I must confess that i was diverted somewhat by other content of young ladies baring all in the interests of football, but that is another kettle of fish.
Back to your Mr Starkey - Over the years i have come across various appearances of the gentleman ? in question - most often in a programme called Question Time. Very early on in this experience, I formed a dislike for his manner and his views. To me he came across as a boorish bigot, who spouted outlandish views, purely to shock. His latest utterance has not dispelled this view.
If you were hoping that I would lead to his defence, then I am sorry to disappoint you.
Now in case you think that you have made a convert to the cause on the strength of this one utterance - again I will have to disillusion you.
In my view, the political party, on which you (and others) have placed your allegiance is no better and no worse than all the rest - they all have their good and bad apples.
And just one final point - it is indeed refreshing to have a posting which is critical of your party, instead of the litany of constantly bashing the opposition of any hue.
