What about some practicalities. There should be some concerted effort to get the road to Seil fixed before the onset of the summer traffic - which I must add is essential to the prosperity of the island. How can we bring any pressure to bear on the council? I fear there will have to be some serious accident before anything will be done.

i agree to the part there will be a serious accident but the road has been like that for as long as i can remember i don't think it's the road that is the problem it's the nutter's driving the car's (tank's) round the place.
The potholes are plumbing new depths . . .

The edges of the road are as bad as I have seen them in three years . . . and the problem is the people in the big shiny Chelsea tractors don't want to risk their tanks in the rough, so they are driving around in the middle of the road forcing people in wee cars into the holes.
Wait until the tour buses take another foot or so off the sides of the worst bits and we will see some fun.

I have my gillies shined and my kilt pressed. I am ready for the tourists.
Wait a minute, I think I might be one of those tousrists. For some reason I can't get the image of monkeys doing a highland fling out of my head.
Cheers
