We ordered a Hotpoint gas cooker from somewhere 'darn sarf' and they said delivery would be £60 (free elsewhere).

I said OK, no sale then and the guy asked me to hold fire while he rang Hotpoint. They (Hotpoint) offered a no-strings payment of £50 to offset the cost. This duly arrived in the form of a cheque not long after the cooker was delivered.

Don't know if any other manufacturers operate a similar scheme, but it is always worth asking.
