Is there a future for mother-in-laws on Easdale?

Not sure what you mean about "on Easdale". There's not much use for mine now on Seil as she's gone missing!!
Problem solved!

A Forum to encourage the airing of views about the issues facing Seil?
Is it surprising that so few islanders post if, on their first visit to the website forum, they are confronted with anally retentive topics such as this one and, in other threads, an undercurrent of xenophobia and ageism.
I resign

Sorry if you feel offended NOS.
I have looked back ove the topics covered so far and some have been serious whilst others have been the opposite. Humour has been involved in many of our debates and discussions, but I do get your point.
If we all promise to tackle more serious/sensible issues will you stay?

Brilliant N.O.S........I agree, but sometimes you have to provoke to get a reaction. You're absolutely right, that this is a Community website, and it's designers intended that it be used. Sadly the uptake appears to have been rather less than hoped for. Contentious statements do tend to make the silent majority come out of their holes have their say, and if this 'vote' leads to a serious debate then that must be for the better.
I detect there is a recognition that the population is aging and that so far no one has found a viable means to attract and retain the young in the area.
Classed as a "foreigner" to the area, and beginning to plan for my retirement, I can also say having my mother-in-law share our house for the last three years has enriched my life. But I also believe you shouldn't give it if you can't take it, and I do!
Perhaps I should ask, and this is a serious question about an issue that may be affecting Seil, do you feel there are undercurrents of xenophobia and ageism affecting the island , because if there are, I need to watch out?

Hi,
Most of the population of this lovely island are "inabootcomers" and hopefully we are all doing our bit towards the community.
This community site should be used more frequently - it can be completely anonymous. I have been following it as a guest for ages - not entirely sure whether to join or not - but have had assurance from the webmaster that there is no way anyone can find out your identity.
I have also found out that this site has been set up without any funding from any sources and to some cost to the guy who set it up - he sees it as his contribution to the community.
Let us all support it with articles, news etc.

Well said Batman...Batwing.
The topics, questions, opinions, etc, etc should reflect life. By all means use it to debate serious issues but also bring a bit of laughter and humour.
Appreciate this site, and the effort that has been put into it. I'm an outsider looking in and I can't think of a similar community with a site this good. I envy what you have. Perhaps you could find another site, perhaps on one of the Gilbert Islands, or another remopte Pacific island, and 'twin' your site so that you share your problems and experiences. I'll bet they have very similar issues, possibly, even with their mother-in-laws.
not serious enough for you.............

[an undercurrent of xenophobia and ageism.]
Now I might agree that there is an undercurrent of ageism, but then the demographic change that is happening on Seil is happening through out Scotland, and if your community is made up predominatly of one age group it is actually a problem.
And yes the Bernard Manning style mother in law jokes are a little tired but its all harmless fun..........But to imply that there is an undercurrent of xenophobia is down right insulting, yes there have been discussions about "incomers" but these disscussions need to be had. Most have ended in agreement that we need new people on this island.....And NO ONE has tryed to dictate what cultural background new home owners or famillys should be from.As far as I am aware there has been no English bashing on this forum, nor should there be (the sooner Seil/Scotland stops blaming England for our own stupidity the better).
"my mother in law is so (insert tired cliche)"
