Yes?..er..maybe not..

Got my 'Yes' leaflet through the door today. Is it just me or does a screaming kid on the front put you off a bit? To me it seems a little bit 'off' to use a child, giving the impression that the Scottish children are 'unruly' and 'loud'. Hate seeing children mouthing off..where are their manners?

Don't judge a leaflet by its cover - read the questions and answers on page 3

We are all tightening our belts due to cutbacks (and searching out these reduced items) - yet with this referendum still more than a year away (and will we be heartiically sick of it by the time it gets there?) yet even at this stage money must be forthcoming from somewhere (at someone's expense) to provide this glossy free handout (ours delivered by someone in a big 4x4).

Aye, Jim, but the no campaign is apparently part-funded to the tune of half a million by a friend of a Serbian warlord, while the yes campaign is funded by Scots, and the big 4 x 4 is probably driven voluntarily by a local.

This posting would almost suggest that the outcome of this (distantly forthcoming) referendum will be decided by the side that can spend the most money on it.
Or is that just being cynical?

.
The YES leaflets are all being delivered by volunteers. How they choose to do it and what vehicles they drive doesn't seem very relevant.

How dare that local person deliver 'YES' leaflets voluntarily and be driving a
a big 4x4
How dastardly!
I'm so glad I don't have one.
Maybe we can score points for the flashiest means of transport - you've seen ours now lets see yours

I should not have got involved in the pettines of some earlier posts.
It does seem a shame, however, that a leaflet ends up in a bin with critisism or comment only on alleged screaming, ill mannered Scottish children and not its content. Not very 'cool.'
Also, seems pointless to comment on the method of delivery and the perceived cost of publication of the YES leaflet, again without comment on the contents. I also thought, from memory, that Jimcee was eager for info so he could make up his mind on the matter.
As stated, funding for the Yes campaign is by donation and leafletting is being done by unpaid volunteers.
Anybody seen a no leaflet?

Certainly not trying to be 'cool'
. My OP was about the front of the leaflet..depicting an unruly child, something which turns people off. It gives the [maybe subliminal?] message that 'Scottish' [he might be any nationality?] that tantrums and aggression are inherent in Scots.

I find your interpretation of the image very strange indeed.

I'm sure Tony can speak for himself but I think you're delusional Foxglove, if you remotely think his comment was a compliment!
It gives the [maybe subliminal?] message that 'Scottish' [he might be any nationality?] that tantrums and aggression are inherent in Scots.
Surely this is not an attempt at stereotyping?
.............and still no comments on the content of the leaflet!

Donnie..just because you and Tony cannot see where I'm coming from does not make you right. I actually found the leaflet front a tad distasteful and there may be others who feel the same. To say my views are 'strange' and 'delusional' well...I don't mind that! Better than having no opinions at all? It's like when the Scots show their 'erses' at footie games...I cringe..I would have thought that the country would want to present itself to the rest of the world as something better than bare bums and spoilt brats...

For those who binned it without reading it, here's p3 of the leaflet:
I think the last point is particularly relevant to those who for some reason think that independence will usher in a one-party SNP state . . . what
will happen is that Scotland will get the government it votes for for a change.

Foxglove, Here is a web site that may throw some insight into this ancient custom. Seemingly, it was the English who first insulted the Scots with this, but, not before they had been historically presented with a Roman rusty sherrif's badge as a target in a much earlier conflict.

Aye, aye Donnie..I get your drift. Can I just point out that most of the world have moved on from 'mooning' as an official insult? These days it is seen as 'drunken yob' behaviour...make of that what you will..

It must be awful for you living up here among this bunch of aggressive drunken yobs with their tantrums and their unruly brats - how do you stand it?

Please could someone explain how come the SNP are proclaiming "We have oil and gas reserves worth over £1 trillion etc etc... that would give Scotland the sort of financial protection etc etc"
I do understand that if ALL the remaining oil is sold at a presumed price ($130 per barrel?) it would raise £1 trillion over the years.
But that £1 trillion does not go to the Scottish Exchequer, it goes to Shell, BP, Exxon etc no ?
What we get is the corporation tax on their profit from its sale yes ?
If I'm correct in my thinking then we get considerably less than the SNP claims.
Working it out and assuming a very generous profit margin of 50% for the oil companies and a competitive Corporation Tax rate of 20% I calculate that we get £100 billion, spread over say 25 years or £4 billion a year.
Anyone disagree with that ?
If I'm correct then the SNP leaflet which came through my letterbox the other day is guilty of gross misrepresentation.
No, not £1 trillion but £4 billion pa,
I am ready to be corrected and be humble if I'm wrong.
