After having a post removed I'll leave this forum as in my opinion what I said was not that bad. The last thing I wanted to do was offend. However...a forum should be a place for people to air their views, on this one seems like you have to walk on eggshells...

I presume what you said was libellous, slanderous, racially abusive, sexually explicit, deviant, or religiously offensive? Clearly the moderator has to to take a dim view of these.
Personally I think a 'sharp' comment to another poster is acceptable whereas a personal insult is below the belt (no idea if it was aimed at me or someone else). Not that it bothers me, I think that is the great thing about these sort of forums in that you can really give your opinion, bearing in mind that you may get back what you give! I hope that as a longstanding member you'll keep posting and help us get some good discussions going.

I removed the post because it was off-topic and a personal attack on me. I expect posters on here to play the ball, not the man. It was also a comment that I felt the poster themselves might come to regret come daylight.
In the interests of fairness I also removed my last post, which was what apparently triggered the patronising advice to me about tone and the demand that I 'Cease' (sic). By removing both posts I thought I would avoid embarrassment and public name calling. I detailed my reasoning in a PM and e-mail. I am sorry that the OP prefers a public slanging match, and is now going to flounce off in a huff.

Why do you have to say that?

Because that is what appears to be happening.

I don't do 'flouncing'. As for making this public..what is the point of a forum if we have to use pm's to talk to each other? May as well just correspond by email. I stick by my original point that you overeacted Nick. You had already said something along the lines of 'not taking PP seriously', I did not want him to give up on what was promising to be an informative debate. Let's face it..they are thin on the ground these days...I wonder why?

But, Nick, it is insulting and antagonistic.

Well well! at last some plain speaking. A good old spat to brighten up a dreary Sunday morning. Now THIS is what a forum should be..

If you think so. It bores the hell out of me. You keep stirring though.
I've put your post back on the original thread, but I won't be responding to it obviously.

There is not just you to consider though is there? Some might like this
, if they don't then they can ignore it.

Now Nick are you telling me you always play fair? Or are attacks directed at anyone except the "moderators" OK?

Nick..Pentlandpirate started a very interesting debate. Please don't let it get nasty and cease [you CAN be a little 'sharp' at times] . I wholeheartedly agree with your view that people who live here should have a vote, regardless of their ancestry/origins
Was THAT it? Jeez, I don't know how I could carry on living if someone said that to me.
And another thing. I thought only the Moderator, Herby Dice, could delete other people's posts. Over the years alot of people have come to the conclusion that Herby Dice and NickB are one and the same operators. This is why I love Seil Chat. So much mystery!

.
I am not Herby Dice.
As the administrator of the board I can (obviously) do pretty much anything except see peoples' passwords, as these are only stored in encrypted form in the database.
The only post that was deleted was my own, in response to Foxglove's complaint that it might offend the sensibilities of the pirate.
Anyone can delete their own posts.
Jeez . . . what a whinging bunch of ingrates.

Actually Nick...the removal of my post was not a problem...the nasty pm and email were out of order. As I said in my email back to you I'm disappointed that you felt the need to 'go bananas'.
Also..Pentlandpirate is one of the most interesting posters on here...

I don't like personal attacks on anyone. There is a 'report post' icon
which allows any user to flag a post they don't like. Any such reports are always looked into and dealt with as myuself or Herby sees fit. We also monitor the board as and when to make sure nothing freadful is happening, though we can't offer 24/7 cover and there have been times when unfortunate things have been left up for longer than I would have liked.
As a rule of thumb, if you wouldn't say it to someone's face then don't say it on here. It's easy to be brave on an internet forum.

So, let me get this straight. The only post you say you removed was your own and you didn't remove Foxglove's post. And Foxglove didn't remove his/her post which is why he/she complained. But you admit you did remove Foxglove's post, but then you put it back. Mmmm.

I removed my post and Foxglove's post. Foxglove thought I was being too hard on you and was worried you mght go off in a huff and deny us your fascinating insights, so I removed my post in case she was right. I was annoyed as I thought F's post was a stupid and unnecessary interruption to the thread - it would have been more appropriate to PM me or report the post. Anyway, in the interests of peace (hah
) I removed both posts. There didn't seem to be much point in leaving F's post up if mine was gone. I PM-ed F to explain what I had done and also emailed them in case they didn't check their PMs.
One post was deleted, which I made, and it wasn't worth a hill of beans. I put F's post back when they got so upset about it.
What exactly is your problem? Sheesh, what a bore! Can't you find a more interesting conspiracy to get your knickers in a knot about? You should try posting on the yachting forum I frequent. Whole threads vanish all the time, often with no explanation.

Can I reiterate..I was NOT upset about my post being removed, I don't think it was 'stupid' either as you'd already started to be a little confrontational with PP and I was looking forward to the thread developing. I was not all that upset about the pm and email either..just taken aback at the vitriol..

You administer that one too?
