Watching deer rutting on Rhum i think on Autumn Watch tonight.The deer are crossing ground by a river which is overlooked by a small village the deer are mating in the ruins of a cleared village it encapsulates for me what is wrong with us we are being fed bullshit about stupid animals and not being fed the story of what happened to the villagers and being enfeebled by rubbish about ecology and the natural world. I was insulted by the piece of film my reaction took me by sup rise.

Oi..less of the 'stupid animals'...they have as much right to be here as us!

But good Scottish stags shouldn't incongruously be named Mozart and Cassius. That's symptomatic of one aspect of modern Scotland! And, HD, I think the story of the clearances is quite well known. What's wrong with protecting our environment, our ecology, our scenery? Fancy a windfarm above Clachan Bridge?

Yes, the John Muir Trust are against the proposed Coire Glas pumped hydro scheme above Loch Lochy. (Short article here). The Mountaineering Council of Scotland are also against the scheme.

It seems to me that the folk who will have their view spoilt are a handful of largely city-dwelling wilderness seekers who regard the Highlands as their personal weekend playground. It also occurs to me that the bulk of Scotland's existing hydro-electric schemes would never have been built in these days of flashmob demonstrations and internet petitions. Nowadays of course they are accepted as part of the Highland scene and many are tourist attractions in their own right.

Its the fact that we are now expected to consider deer more important than our ancestors and us
Iwould also say that red deer are not endangered and the deer on Rhum have been studied for decades. Why do we need to know the habits of Red Deer they are a pest are they not.
And what are we protecting its certainly not our culture, language and the small history which is actually the most important
Scenery in this context is a word i don't want to hear i'm sick of what it implies
The Highlands and Western Isles have endured countless landlords who lived elsewhere now we have John Muir Trust and others who want to `look after us`and make us appreciate what we have
I would say YES to Independence and to a wind farm above Clachan Bridge
