Has anyone else had any experience of posting comments on the Easdale People website which don't ever appear?

Jim, how do you know?jimcee wrote:A short answer for you - No
Or do you just mean 'I haven't'?
I wasn't really looking for 'no' answers from individuals, as these are presumably going to be the vast majority of people who read this.

Jim, he's such a pedant, isn't he? It's obvious you were just referring to your own experience. Nick, do you agree that you're a bit of a pedant?

I have never experienced any problems in posting to the Easdale community website, Easdale People although they site appeara to have experienced a problem which resulted in some of their articles disappearing.

Re: Easdale People
I am referring to the moderators' apparent refusal to approve comments of mine or to engage in any discussion of the issue. I am still waiting for a comment I made on 18th August to be approved.brodie wrote:I have never experienced any problems in posting to the Easdale community website, Easdale People although they site appeara to have experienced a problem which resulted in some of their articles disappearing.

Re: Easdale People
Surely a website which has a moderator or editor is a bit like a newspaper where articles of all types are submitted, but only some actually get to grace the pages.
I myself have submitted numerous letters both erudite and witty to the Oban Times, but only about half appear to make the grade. Some have admittedly been critical of the Oban Times itself, and I suppose that they are not in the business of publicising their shortcomings.
However I must say in defence of our moderator that I have never been refused an airing on this particular site.
But then controversy is probably what makes it worth a read.

Re: Easdale People
A forum or blog isn't a newspaper, and the generally accepted etiquette is that all posts/comments are published unless they contravene some fairly basic rules that are usually set out clearly and unambiguously. These tend to cover things like personal abuse, libel, foul language etc. Not publishing posts or comments simply because they contradict your point of view on a subject is a rather different matter.jimcee wrote:I myself have submitted numerous letters both erudite and witty to the Oban Times, but only about half appear to make the grade. Are you talking about the post about an independent Scotland's automatic (or not) membership of the EU in the Post Office thread ?NickB wrote: I am referring to the moderators' apparent refusal to approve comments of mine or to engage in any discussion of the issue. No . . . although I did post a comment on that thread as well yesterday just to see if it was personal, and that has yet to appear as well.longshanks wrote:Are you talking about the post about an independent Scotland's automatic (or not) membership of the EU in the Post Office thread ?NickB wrote: I am referring to the moderators' apparent refusal to approve comments of mine or to engage in any discussion of the issue. Perhaps the site works in a different manner to this one. Not illegal is it?

What do you mean by 'works in a different way', Minimum?Minimum wrote:Perhaps the site works in a different manner to this one. Not illegal is it?
If you mean 'only publishes comments representing viewpoints the editorial team agree with' then yes, it definitely does work in a different way to this site.
It should perhaps make this clear though instead of presenting itself as an open discussion forum.

Re: Easdale People
Well, I could be wrong, but it looks as if the posts on the Easdale People are not put up until they have been moderated whereas on this site they seem to go on immediately. If this is the case then perhaps whoever moderates it isn't glued to the computer as much as you are.
Only a suggestion.

And quite a reasonable one. All posts on Easdale People are moderated before appearing.Minimum wrote:Well, I could be wrong, but it looks as if the posts on the Easdale People are not put up until they have been moderated whereas on this site they seem to go on immediately. However . . . my comment on the 'Royal Mail' thread has now been published, but my comment of 18th July on the 'New Server ' thread is still 'awaiting moderation' for some reason.

Re: Easdale People
If I recall correctly, did you have a posting on the Easdale People that disappeared? If so, how did it get on and get taken off? Seems a bit strange.

The post that has been in the moderation queue since 18th July is now gone, but so is the post it was in response to, so I guess honour is satisfied.

Re: Easdale People
This is really getting bogged down in Moderator's perceived injustice at not getting some of his aired on Easdale People.
To a rank outsider who does not wish to get involved in Easdale Politics, it would appera that Easdale People is the voice of the silent majority on Easdale island who are unhappy about the clique who are currently running the show. All well and good as it is a free country and everyone should have their say. However their editorial stance is hardly likely to publicise anything that might encoutrage the clique to ride even more roughshod over the inhabitants.
I do not know what our moderator was on about in his posts to Easdale People (he was not very forthcoming on the subject) and it may be that he is up in arms about a site which does not conform to his own high ideals
