I hear from the grapevine that the new folk are leaving the shop
. Shame really...they are very helpful and friendly and have got the shop running well...

Nick Bowles - 'They lasted less than a year. A bit disappointing. '
What a crass remark Mr Bowles !!!
It makes me wonder whether you knew Mark and Shirley ?

I did not know Mark and Shirley well. However, I fail to see how losing our shopkeepers can be described as anything but disappointing. I understand they have been offered better prospects elsewhere, so it is good for them - but we are now left with a shop with an unknown future, so some concern is inevitable. I don't see how that concern can be described as crass.
I guess that as Foxglove says, some folk just aren't cut out for shopkeeping. Taking on a rural shop where the shop is at the heart of the community is a big committment, one you need to go into with your eyes wide open. We ran a village shop in Aberdeenshire for seven years before moving to Seil . . . the woman who we sold it to was keen as mustard but lasted just six months before shutting the shop for good. The village was then without a shop for nine years.
So - whether I knew Mark or Shirley is irrelevant. They had the very big shoes of Jean and Alastair to fill and were beginning to find their feet and settle in. Their departure is disapointing for me and, I suspect, for many other regular users of the shop. If they were friends of yours and you do not find their departure disappointing then I find that strange.
Anyway, whatever happens now let's hope the shop continues to thrive.

Wendy and Chris Dugdale have taken over the shop. From talking to them it seems they have nothing but good plans for the store, and if you want some input then there is even a suggestions box.
Apparently my "free beer for over 50s" is not a useful suggestion!

Wishing Wendy & Chris all the best. They seem cheery and positive and we all need to support the shop. Use it or lose it.

Good luck to Wendy and Chris they have a good connection with the community.
The last incumbent i can`t even remember their names i think they were here for the life style on not much else they didn't seem to believe in stocking the shop hence the nick name locally"perestroika shop".
