Very friendly and intelligent, Heinz variety (part collie part alsation?)

It's been hanging round the top end of Balvicar for a few days now.

At night too? If so it must be lost..maybe phone the dog warden?. Dogs unattended are accidents waiting to happen. Poor thing..

I haven't seen it at night - but then it's dark . . .

It's coat is glossy and it looks in good condition, so it must be getting fed somewhere.

The same dog has been wandering about all day around Cnoc Mhor/Beag. Any ideas anyone? Should we call the dog warden?

Saw him on the road opposite the shop today at lunchtime. Who's going to call the warden? Matter of time before he's hit by a car or causes an accident. Why can't people look after their pets properly? Is someone kicking him outdoors in the morning because they are too damned lazy to walk him?...

According to the council website, they have 4 dog wardens who can be contacted at 01546 605514 or at a service post in the Municipal Building, Albany St, Oban. They should collect and care for the poor hound before he gets run over.

Yes, I reckon someone is slinging the dog out when they go to work. Has anyone called the dog warden yet?

Might be an idea to phone the dog warden, at least for advice? Your thread, your call, Nick?

Hope somebody calls the dog warden - might be more difficult at the weekend.

Well, the dog is not here just now and I doubt if the dog warden has the time to come and wait for it to show up. I'm not going to take it 'into custody' either, as it is obviously an owned and cared for dog.

Can't be all that 'cared for' if it's running about on the roads. Maybe if someone can take him in or put him in a shed and then call the warden?

I think you're better to get advice from the dog warden before attempting to do anything. If this was a stray it would be different, but as it's thought this dog has a home locally somewhere, the person who 'locks it away' could be storing trouble up for themself. Dogs are still considered posessions no matter what we all think of the situation.

Or call the SSPCA, if you'd rather. He'd investigate and give advice to the owner! John McAvoy 01852 200243. The report has to be made by a person who has witnessed what has happened, not a third party, and everything is done in confidence. Names are not divulged.

I think that getting this dog off the roads would be a priority, for his safety..no matter whether there would be trouble. He looks in good condition so probably all thats needed is for the owner to have a wee lecture about keeping him out of harms way. Strange he has only been seen recently..anyone just moved into the area?

I'll call the SSPCA next time I see the dog - it wasn't around today though, even though I was working outside the house for much of the day.

Well, he's back.

This time we put him on a lead and called the SSPCA - no reply.

Called the dog warden - no reply.

Called A&B environmental health who said they would pass on a message but didn't say when it was liklely to be received.

So - we let the dog go again.

Yes, it was running around the road betwen Phil Moss' place and the BT exchange at tea time. It followed my car and ran off onto the golf course when I stopped.

It's back at Cnoc Beag again. We think it may be getting a bit skinnier.

The dog warden phoned back - can't do anything today, off to Inveraray tomorrow, a colleague might call me . . . I am not holding my breath, seems Argyll and Bute Council's Animal Wellfare Department is no more impressive than the rest of their operation.

The dog warden is off to Inverary? hope whatever is on there is more important than a possible 'cruelty' case [if the dog has been dumped]. Not very impressed with the SSPCA either..I phoned them last Autumn [hedgehog] and still waiting for them to get back to me. Nick, did you call the emergency number or the chap at Kilmelford? I would take him in but my dog would not like it [and no..I don't go on the golf course ]
