Hello all !
I am new to the forum and I have to be honest I have joined to see if I can reminisce a little.
Over the last few years I have lost a few family members and after another recent death my mind has turned to the past a little more than usual.
Back in the early 70's when I was 8 or so our family lived in Southport and we used to pack up the car in school holidays and do a long drive up to Seil.
This is where I need help as I have told my wife and children many times of the wonderful times I had there but I am now struggling to find where we went to so I can take them there.
I have googled and 'google earthed' but that wasn't any help I am afraid.
We stayed at a caravan park which was very close (south I think) to a car ferry which I think went to Luing (Cuan ferry maybe ?)
There was a small farmhouse and shop which I seem to remember was only open at certain times of the day.
My fondest memory was of the evenings as that was when the car ferry stopped, however there was a small passenger boat that took foot passengers over the water when required. I got very friendly with the pilot who allowed me to ride across with him on his trips. My parents would say they could see the light on the boat bouncing over the waves in the dark and were nervous until I came back to the caravan.
Our favourite caravan was close to the water by an old unused jetty/slip and I was always freaked out by the jellyfish that were swimming past when I went close to the water.
I would love for someone to tell me my memory isn't playing tricks, as I can't find any mention of a caravan site around that area, current or otherwise.
Pictures of that era would be an even bigger bonus.
Thanks for listening, as Frasier Crane would say.
Neil
