Events in the Puffer for Feb - March

Detailed in this post in the What's On section.

Please remember anyone can post events in this section - for some reason it seems to be mostly me that ends up doing it. It is well worth posting your events there - the Easdale RIB event post has already had 93 views.

I've e-mailed to ask, Maggie, but nothing has been forthcoming. No details on the Puffer website either. Probably busy gearing up for the Rib Rendezvous.

Probably too worried about going bust; I hear that visitor numbers are down considerably since the submission of planning applications for the wind turbine, air source heat pump (which will be heard in Ellenabeich) and the solar PV. Not a welcoming environment for visitors.

The Puffer sign on the Seil side of the water has been vandalised at least twice AFAIK
It's pathetic. Surely we are better than that, local politics on Easdale or Seil notwithstanding. Get a grip, whoever you are :spock:

I don't recall that I claimed to be an islander; as far as vandalism is concerned I do not condone it in any shape or form. However, I am concerned that the undemocratic actions of Eilean Eisdeal are having a huge negative impact on tourism for both Easdale and Ellenabeich.

Easdale nonsense

Sorry, I thought that was the implication in:
and the solar PV. Not a welcoming environment for visitors.
I can understand the objections to a wind turbine (visual) and a heat pump (noise) but I am at a loss as to why PV panels would be such a turn-off for visitors. The determination to oppose everything EE does is no more rational or democratic than their own apparent determination to push through an agenda that does not have majority support. The positions appear to have become so bitter and entrenched that it seems no agreement is ever going to be possible without UN intervention. It's a a pity people can't disscuss these differences like adults and restore some harmony to the ticking time bomb that Easdale Island seems to have become.

The solar PV is part of the air source heat pump planning apllication, I did not say that there was anything wrong with the solar PV. I agree that the wind turbine and air source heat pump are not appropriate for Easdale Island and I would point out that I do not automatically oppose all of Eilean Eideals actions. I do however take exception to the lack of democracy in some of their actions and their attempts to enforce their will on the islanders without consultation.

My apologies if you thought I was getting at you personally Brodie - that was not the intention. I was making a comment on the generally acrimonious and adversarial situation on Easdale and the apparent unwillingness of parties on both sides to do anything constructive to resolve it.

Unfortunately, I am reliably informed that the island community has completely lost faith in EE; as is demonstrated by the number of objectors to their planning applications.

This lack of trust, in an organization that acts in a secret and clandestine manner without obtaining the mandate of the community or of their own members (most of whom do not live or own property on Easdale) and without even canvassing the opinions of the community, will only be repaired by the mass resignation of the directors of EE and the election of new and more democratic representatives who have the interests and aspirations of the community at heart rather than the current directors with their own vested business interests.

EE is a strictly top down organization that does not entertain dialogue, rather it adopts a dictatorial attitude of telling the community what is good for the community. Perhaps the most equitable solution would be for EE to be wound up.

All this stuff about vandalism is a load of baloney IMHO, and seems like an attempt by one "side" to discredit the other "side", which is beyond pathetic. From what I heard, both incidents happened on winter nights after the last ferry, when the argumentative Easdale-ites were trapped on their rock. Strong winds were the most likely instruments of signboard destruction.

You may be right but the last time I saw it it certainly didn't look like wind damage.
