Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I've finally decided that I am against his unconditional release.....although I fear I may have decided too late to make a difference ........
I reckon he was released because new evidence was going to have his appeal upheld and the government didn't want the embarrassment so released him before the appeal could go forward. His appeal should have been considered, the results made public and he should have been either released or kept in jail, depending on whether he was innocent or guilty respectively.
How do I change my vote?

Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I don't think you can......
I'm undecided.. I mean, both 'truths' are too horrendous to comprehend,
IE:
An evil man released
or
An innocent and dying man used and his life wasted
Neither situation bares thinking of.........

Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I guess he might have been dead by the time the appeal was processed. IF he was innocent, that would have been a bugger......maybe it was best to release him.......back on the fence.......
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I don't like being on the fence... it seems so lame. But, rather that than trumpeting a view with no concrete evidence

Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
Sorry Shrinking Violet, but that doesn't explain why holding out the promise of a return to virginity would be a worthwhile reward for a female suicide bomber - in fact it would seem to be counter productive in attracting misguided letchers and aids sufferers - not whom your true virgin is in the market for.
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I obviously failed in my attempt at making that an obvious sarcastic comment. Shygirl78 (sticking to the arts forum from now on by choice)

In The Meaning Of It All, Richard Feynman says that 'fence sitting is an art, and it's difficult, and it's important to do, rather that just go heading in one direction or the other.'
The owls are not what they seem.

Fence sitting an art? Thanks for posting that quote P. You're a star . M.

Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I wonder if you get your supply of Virgins restocked once you have used them, so to speak? I believe the going rate for a suicide bombing these days is around 72, although with current fluctuations in the stock market this could well have changed since you read this.
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
These suicide bombers must be stupid. I mean, wouldn't you want to check these virgins out before you blew yourself to pieces? I mean, what if they're all 84 year old virgin spinsters, all wrinkles and no teeth? Would you really take a Mullah's word they're all beautiful? Presumably if they are already in Heaven waiting for their suicide bombers, they must already be dead too, so does that mean the Taliban endorse necrophilia along with all their other uncivilised habits? I know it is not much of a local issue, but it could be, and clearly the dilemma is already of concern of some locals .
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
The men that hijacked passenger jets and flew them into various targets in the US on September 11th were virgins themselves. This is also typically the case for your run-of-the-mill suicide bomber. They are groomed and removed from society (and more importantly, the opposite sex) to increase their frustrations while their beliefs are manipulated to justify jihad. The icing on the cake is the promise of a bunch of virgins once you blow yourself to bits. Let's face it, a horny teenager will do quite a lot for a promise like that.
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
I still don't think I would trust a Mullah. As far as I can remember they haven't even confirmed the virgins waiting in Heaven are female. I would hate to do all that and then find I had been shafted
Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
Me neither.
To be fair to the Mullahs though, I think you'll find that they are not the only ones making wild claims about the afterlife.

Re: Al Megrahi, correct decision???
When you think about it - you don't get Buddhists, Confucians, Taoists, Rastifarians, voodoo?ists, or even dyed in the wool Southern baptists, queing up to get a quick messy dispatch from this life.
No, it is just these Muslims who have this obsession of martyrdom, and as a personal observation, it seems to be the Mullahs who are inciting this mayhem, and I have yet to hear of one of the brotherhood who has made his own personal sacrifice for the cause. No, it's indoctrinate a young impressionable lad, a bit short in the top storey, send him on his way with his lethal cargo, and back to a good square meal in the mosque.
Can the silent majority (assuming there is one) not get their act together and send these purveyors of carnage out of circulation?

I found this little snippet which has a Lockerbie connection and thought it may give rise to further debate and opinion.
Apologies if it has already been mentioned.

No, it isn't. Let's have some sanity for free speech without looking on the downside of every word, phrase, sentence to look for an alterior meaning or motive. This racism thing goes far too far. If their religion wants to be seen more tolerantly they should take more responsibility to eliminate the violent extremists.
