Yes?..er..maybe not..

Re: Yes?..er..maybe not..
Fair point. Although a referendum is far from guaranteed yet.
The fact that the rUK may leave the EU after Scotland may have gained independence is another unsettling factor. So if we are heading into uncertain times it's normally considered better to stick together.....wouldn't you say?

I had to look that up:DonnieC wrote:Ever heard of rats and a sinking ship - I'm with the Muroideans in this one!
Muroidea: a large superfamily of rodents. It includes hamsters, gerbils, true mice and rats, and many other relatives.
. . . and Danny Alexander presumably ?

Donnie, are you saying you don't think an independent Scotland should be in the EU? But hasn't Alex Salmond already stated you can take it as a given that an independent Scotland would be in the EU?Ever heard of rats and a sinking ship - I'm with the Muroideans in this one!

.
I rather think HMS UK is the foundering vessel referred to.
A misunderstanding there that I think illustrates all too clearly the huge gulf that is opening up between Scottish and UK politics.

Thanks for that Nick. I was 'floudering' in my attempts to transfer multiple quotes to reply which, on re-reading was best not posted - I don't want barred again!
I would just add the desertion was being carried out by us Scots....you know the ones....
Please no more nautical puns please!

What a slur on the poor Ginger Rodent. After all, was he not trying recently to pour oil on 'troubled waters' by hoping us Scots could disagree without majorly falling out..........except on Seil Chat! Most are probably less well educated and less discerning than you.

Re: Yes?..er..maybe not..
And you think the EU looks so great? That's the sinking barge. Look at Greece, look at Spain (27% unemployed), Cyprus, Italy, France.... even the majority of Germans want to ditch the Euro. It is deeply worrying. The EU was set up supposedly to ensure peace in Europe and ensure World War could never be repeated. Yet it is now creating a cauldron of unrest that politicians are struggling to keep a lid on. It won't take much more before it starts to break up. Yet some in Scotland want to break up the union with the rest of the UK so it has its own powers and join a union that's increasingly pushing to merge its members into a federal European state where individual members will have little control on so many crucial matters. It just doesn't make sense. No wonder the major desertion is that of Scots turning their backs on the Yes Campaign. Only on SeilChat would there appear to be a disproportionate representation of public opinion. What makes people in this area so different and why do they not see what the majority elsewhere see?

One union good, two unions bad?
A Panelbase poll for the Sunday Times Scotland and Real Radio published in late March had showed a narrowing of the gap to 10 points, with No at 46% and Yes at 36%, with 'don't knows' at 18%.
Support for independence is steady at worst - and the YES campaign and the SNP are keeping their powder dry.

Re: Yes?..er..maybe not..
An early poll after Salmond accepted the revised wording of the independence question in January – "Should Scotland be an independent country?" – showed 32% yes, 47% no and 20% undecided. A poll in April for the Daily Record showed a slight swing against independence – 30% yes, 51% no, 19% undecided. That's a 21% difference.

So that's your idea of a 'major desertion', a 2% swing in the polls 500 days before the event.Pentlandpirate wrote:An early poll after Salmond accepted the revised wording of the independence question in January – "Should Scotland be an independent country?" – showed 32% yes, 47% no and 20% undecided. Re: Yes?..er..maybe not..
May I interject with some facts re recent leafletting activities in the district including helping out in Taynuilt.
All in all I've been received very well. I've only had two outright refusals to accepting the leaflet.
Without a doubt the majority of local household are undecided and like me and many others, even in the YES campaign, are looking for more information on the major issues. I am assured all will become clear in October/November with the SNP's proposals.
I am staggered by the thoughts of a few who insist on staying in the Union in case North Korea nukes us - oh dear!
Some people say they will not vote SNP - The message has to be got out that this is not an election but a referendum with a simple YES/no answer. Despite all the coverage it's amazing that there are those out there who have not grasped this fact yet! Unbelievable
By far the best one I've had so far is that Alex Salmond does not want independence at all! In fact he is dead against it. The phylosophy behind this is that 'if you don't want something to happen then promote it! Oh dear!
Now for a few possibilites;
(1) There is a 'No' vote in the referendum and at the next Scottish election the SNP are returned either in the majority or with the most votes cast. What happens then?
Or
(2) There is a 'YES' vote and Labour have the most votes cast and can form a government with 'other parties or party' what then?
In the event of option 2, which is a possibility, is it not time that the Scottish Labour Party show us what it proposes for an independent Scotland?

Re: Yes?..er..maybe not..
A new Ipsos MORI opinion poll for The Times of 1,000 Scots shows support for Scotland leaving the UK has fallen again.
The gap between those in favour and those against has widened by seven to 28 percentage points, among those certain to vote in the referendum.
Just 31 per cent back independence, down three points since February. Meanwhile 59 per cent of Scots are opposed, up by four points. Just 10 per cent say they are undecided.
Who's doing the spinning?

Oh dear, but, following in the footsteps of Longshanks, I apologise for the misinformation re the STV debate featuring Wee Nicola and the Mighty Mike.
The original info online earlier was saying tonight, but, according to 'YES to an Independent Scotland' on Facebook it's next week.
........and you can always trust the YES campaign in everything it posts!!

Oh, and Scottish universities attract almost 20 per cent of all United Kingdom government industrial research funding.
Not so misleading eh?
Why so determined to run the country down, Longshanks?
