For your information this is a British election we are talking about and the BNP is a legally constituted British political party. I am told it has a very strong presence in Scotland
Maggie, how old are you? Have you ever voted before? If you want to register a protest vote then several better suggestions have been made in this thread. In any event, I fear you have been misinformed - I don't think the BNP are going to field a candidate in Argyll and Bute.

Pentland Pirate, I think you meant Dimbleby not Attenborough?
My apologies if I upset anyone by my reference to the BNP. But the socio-political situation in Scotland is quite different from England. Arguably (though I don't agree personally) England may need a political force like the BNP to wake up the main parties to reality. I just dont think we should or need to import that into Scottish politics. We already have the curse of sectarianism as a divisive force, let's not bring in another one unnecessarily.
Who's toes have I stood on this time?

Dear Mr Life
BNP is a British political party, not an exclusively English political party. It is well membered and represented in all parts of Britain, here it goes under the name of BNP Scotland and appears to be associated with The Scottish Defence League.
However we have changed our minds and are now going to vote Conservative. Why, I hear you ask? Well opinion now seems to be that the best chance of Scottish Independence is a Conservative victory. Our feeling is, even though we are English by birth (or perhaps because of it), we want to see England and Scotland go their own different ways. We can see no justification for remaining together.
Okay. Bang goes our protest vote but this may be more effective in solving England's and Scotland's problems. So there yopu are; bye, bye Nick, Hi Dave.

Dear Maggie, Thanks for the information. I'd never heard of the Scottish Defence League so I visited their website which was rather like stepping on something unpleasant. I had to shut down Internet Explorer to get rid of it so I don't recommend it. It seems like the ravings of deluded teenagers so I don't think it would do the BNP any good to be associated with it. Besides whom would they be defending Scotland against? Where does it stop? Maybe eventually all the 'Scots' like myself will have to be sent back to Ireland where they came from in the 6th century.
I hope you're right about the result of a Westminster Conservative Government on the Union but it might just retrench the Central Belt Labour vote and take us back to the Dark Ages of Labour control in Scotland.

Well Lifey, The SDL does seem a little extreme. A friend of mine is an active member of The Circle of Gentlemen. Take a look at their website' probably more to your liking. He is also a member of The Sons of Argyll, which is extremely exclusive and powerful around here (acres and all that) but I doubt they have a website. The Masons seem pretty influential here too but he hasn't told me if he's a member of them. Come to think of it its probably not worth voting for anyone anyway as its the rich and landed who have all the power and privelege anyway, and they have their secret societies here to help them wield that power. Anyone know if women can become freemasons now? I do feel sorry for the poor who are stuck like that forever.

Aye Maggie, Talking of exclusive societies, perhaps the 'Bodaich of Balvicar' could field a prospective member.
This is a lucid group often found within the confines of TNT-the membership and mood varies depending on the ritualistic consumption of Glen Seil.
I thought I saw you Maggie baring all at a recent initiation ceremony at the Lodge. As you know it's not usual, but not unknown, for women to be admitted to the Freemasons.
But, given the initiation process, it's always a packed inner Temple that night.
Safer to have joined the local 'Daughters of Dunearn.'

Ach, Maggie you can join my secret society any day. Membership of 1 so far.
But I think there's something called 'the eastern star' for aspiring female goat clappers, maybe Sleepy can elucidate since he seems to move in these exalted circles.

For anybody interested I suggest the following site for info on some of the secret societies that abound;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemasonry
Best I say no more as there are penalties - some extreme - that can be applied for divulgance - depending on the degree of exposure!
Moonraker wired to the 'Eastern Star'
Sadly on the above site there is no mention of the Balvicar Bodaich or the Dunearn Daughters ..... maybe they don't exist .... or maybe.....

At the risk of sounding thick, which I'm sure will be suitably reinforced by one of the respondents, can someone explain the difference between the SNP and the BNP?
Since moving to Scotland over 25 years ago I have encountered discrimination by some of the so called Scots. I guess they're proud of their actions - as are the BNP, allegedly.
I also have red hair.

Gosh, that's easy.
I've been seated in groups where the topic of conversation has been around sending the English b*****ds back home. I've also worked in environments where similar messages were written on the toilet walls. I've had the "Flower of Scotland" sung in my home, for my benefit. Need any more?

Well, you're right, I can't guess the political views of the gaffiti artists, but the rest proclaimed either to be SNP members or supporters. It hasn't deterred me from keeping red hair tho'.

It's a shame, Minimum. Shame on them.
But I've been called a 'Scotch git' in England and frequently been outnumbered and lectured at here on the Joys of the Union, especially in the old Inshaig days.
The SNP has always welcomed everyone regardless of their country of origin, religion, colour (including hair...!) etc.
Cant say that about the other lot.
BTW I believe George Doyle is standing for Westminster as an Independent so there's a protest vote worth looking at.
