Yes, but we HAVE to have PR.

It's just not democratic to not have it. Ok you may have hung parliaments full of independents and fringe parties, but isn't it about time our politicians started thinking about what's best for the people rather than for themselves? Start working together like the rest of us have to.

I think there is a flaw in the Poll. It seems I have been able to have more than one vote. I only tried it again just to see if there was a fault in the system but after my sixth vote for the SNP I came to the conclusion there definitely was something wrong. Or is it just me that is allowed extra votes?

.
You can have one vote per member, plus one vote per IP address (which is what allows anonymous non-registered users to vote). It is therefore possible for a member to have two votes, one when logged in and one when not logged in. If you do this then of course you are cheating somewhat, but that is the maximum extent of it. There is no way you can vote multiple times while logged in under the same member name.

If you are voting multiple times when not logged in to the board then it means your IP address is constantly changing. This could mean your router is disconnecting and reconnecting frequently, but I think this is unlikely.

My conclusion is therefore that you have either:

a) voted twice, once logged in and once not logged in - and that the claim of six votes is an exaggeration
or
b)set up your connection through TOR or some similar utility which constantly changes your IP address (popular with hackers and people engaged in illegal activity online)
or
c)you are just saying this because you are alarmed by the apparent Nat landslide

Whichever it is I think you could - if you had been genuinely concerned for the democratic process - have PM-ed me rather than posting in open forum. As you have now publicly discredited the voting system currently in operation I will change it so only registered members can vote before any more polls are added.

Dear Admin. You are absolutely right: I should have PM'd you!

Any how I am a). Certainly not b) or c). And yes, I admit I exagerated!

But I did presume the vote was only for registered users too.

I wanted more people to participate - lots of people are worried about signing up. It does mean that people can vote twice by signing in and voting then logging out and voting again, but I hoped they wouldn't do this.

Overall I think we will probably go back to voting by registered members only after this poll.

My point is that this forum is becoming more than a little dull. There used to be a bit of banter, humour and the occaisonal thought provoking post from numerous individuals who for one reason or another don't seem to contribute much anymore.

At the risk of getting 'carded' I feel that certain individuals have hijacked this site as an outlet for their own personal pontifications - yes, I know it's a forum and your free to speak as you please - but I feel (and possibly others do too) that there are a disproportionate amount of rambling posts from the same tiresome individuals that is simply boring others away.

You for example PP have almost 50% of 20 or so posts in this thread alone.

I'm sure you make valid points sometimes and your probably a 'nice guy' too but perhaps if you would 'hud yer wheesh' until others have had their say we might return to the diverse and vibrant forum we had a while back.

There I've said it - nothing personal :berserk

Eric, at least I tried to make a contribution. Where's yours? With your little attack on me all you've done is risk discouraging more people to join in for fear of being criticised publicly or belittled. Things can be dull and one sided if no one else joins in. Perhaps I'm more community spirited than you. Are you the type that moans that nothing ever gets done in the community? What sort of events do you support? What sort of things do you try to help make a success of? I agree there used to be more banter and fun here....I'm all for it. Go ahead and start it off, lets see if you can get more folk to join in.

I blame Longshanks for casting the first stone into this tranquil pool then running away.

The current SNP landslide is interesting - would you say it was due in part to the popularity of the local candidate?

I thought PP had managed to discredit the poll. Take off 6 votes and what is left? I'm not sure how accurate the result is and if indeed it does reflect any realistic preference for a particular party. I think there are probably a lot more voters on Seil than participants on this chat forum and let's hope the general election results can't be "fixed" so easily!

 8) Why don't we consider a level of self-government for Seil/Luing/Easdale, modelled on the Isle of Man or Channel Islands? A toll booth at the bridge controlling traffic flow and charging fees, a block grant plus local tax-varying powers and donations from the wealthy inhabitants to improve our infrastructure, a wee government in the new hall fed by an e-parliament on this site, Balvicar the capital, parties and ceilidhs aplenty etc? New flag, coat-of-arms, "national" song etc. Annual awards for distinguished services. Own radio station and so on. Anyone in favour of the SSP (Seil Separatist Party)?! 8)

Blimey !
Spider; have you hacked into my draft manifesto ?
Keep the poll running MacB, as it is. I've got the feeling that with the revelations coming out about that "snout in the trough" Salmond, the result of this poll may become a surprise as we turn away from the SNP.
Why did he claim almost a thou in Westminster food allowances when Parliament was in recess for that time period and he was electioneeering, holidaying, living in Ecossse throughout?
He's as corrupt as the the moat owners and is trying to hide it by refusing to release his diaries for that period.
Kick him out...kick out the SNP promise breakers.
My way forward, as seconded by Spidey, is for each region of Scotland to unilatilary declare Independence, starting with Seil (I've the feeling that Easdale may wish to remain a Crown Colony). Let Mandy Pandy and the Gorgon sort that one out.

 8) Longshanks, I think you have, in the past, professed your preference to vote SNP and also for Nicola to take over as leader. Nothing you ever post here supports belief in these statements of yours. You seem, as your name implies, to be a Scot-bashing Tory! Sorry if this insults you too much or offends our Moderator! Compared to the blatant major expenses shams of the Tory and Labour politicians, however, Salmond's alleged (but not yet proven) minor misdemeanor is really trivial and I expect him to come up with a rational explanation anyway. Your predicted swing away from the SNP is highly unlikely as Brown digs the Labour lot into a daily deeper hole and the Tories under Lord Snooty at last are forced to start announcing some policies which will without doubt not appeal to the average Scottish punter who votes. Anyway, as the report just out by the cancer-expert Calman shows (why ask a medic to make judgements on politics? and why should anyone listen as he was commissioned by the Scottish minority parties only?!), the SNP is dragging the unionist parties towards independence anyway! Despite these differences between us, I'm still willing to be your running mate on Seil independence! Freedom for Seil!! 8)

The Seil Seperatist Party? Interesting thought Spidey - In an independent Seil how would Seil deal with it's island neighbours that merely use Seil as a convienient 'stepping stone' to the mainland? A toll road maybe? Perhaps you favour a federacy of small island states or it may be simpler to annex Easdale (which I believe already has its independece)?

 8) A confederacy sounds good to me in the first instance, Eric. Then we can see whether the others want to take it further, go it alone and pay hefty Seil road/bridge/ferry transit tolls. Of course, Seil will hold the purse-strings, have all the perks (like a modern sewage system, medical centre, decent shop, pubs, hotels, its own highland games and it will host the capital and hence attract all the industry, tourist buses and reality TV crews, most of the money and so on). Easdale might eventually want some form of devolution but, if they find oil offshore, we certainly won't give it to them. 8)

Sorry to have confused you Spidey. Let me explain.

My relationship with the SNP is like a lover spurned. I had such high hopes and they have turned to dust. I trusted them but Salmond's dishonesty and greed in his expenses claims disgusts me. You expect it from Tories and lower class labourites but not from the man who was to lead us to Freedom. Simply they have lost my vote and I feel we need to now follow a less conventional route to Independence.......fragmented and multi declarations of UDI.

How can I be Scot-bashing when I'm a true Scot myself. I sometimes poke fun at us Scots out of frustration at some of our more parochial attitudes and our widespread misunderstanding/romanticising of our history.

Tory...absolutely not.
..................
Shankers and Spidey as running mates? I suggest we stand separetely but under the same banner of UDI for Seil. Get a couple of others alongside us and we can take over the Community Council ! On election night we march to the bridge, put up barriers, hoist our flag :saltire and start taking tolls from non-residents. First budget expenditure from monies raised: a uniform for all party members.
....................
As for this poll, I notice that the Tories are catching up fast as I suspected they would, I now have a concern reference the great pedantic himself. We need assurance that he himself is not manipulating the result like a wee ayatollah as he has multiple personalities on this forum all of which can cast a vote! (NickB, admin, Swarm, Herby Dice, The Crimson Vicar; to name a few). MacB...we need to know or there's a danger of The Seil Separatist Party mobilising its members to the streets (street) tonight, green armbands available from the Kilbrandon mosque.
