The second paragraph is bizarre. "Scotland would therefore take on a share of revenues from the scheme." Of course; until the day we separate. From then on Scotland would receive the revenues from the Road User Charge from within Scotland (BTW only 5% of England's exports go to Scotland). However it would receive no revenue from the rUK scheme. Why would it ?

Sure, the independent Scotland could put in place offsetting measures for Scotland's hauliers but that would mean shifting the burden to the Scottish taxpayer.

To remind you: 90% of our exports travel into or through England. The £10 per day per lorry would go to the rUK. 5% of rUK exports come to Scotland and, assuming we continue the charge, the revenue would come to Scotland on that.

I think the debate would be better served if you and the SNP acknowledged that consequence rather than try to hide it away with strange phrases like green goblins and/or scaremongering.

We Scots aren't stupid. We are perfectly capable of recognising when politicians or activistsare trying to hide or stifle unpalatable truths.

So you aren't blaming Westminster for this. As I said before it was well within the means of government, Scottish and local, to do this already, but have they bothered.....? In this world people need to realise that if you want something enough you've got to sort it yourselves rather than expecting someone else to give it to you, and blaming others when that doesn't happen.

As for LS, I think he debates very maturely. There's not a hint of Kappoww in his arguments and he's not scaremongering, but making valid points, perhaps taking the topic momentarily onto another subject, but that is the way conversations go. He was not the one who added Scottish Independence into the thread but you did not object to that inclusion. But you bear out his point of being a Yes campaigner who turns on the scaremongering accusation to try and close out debate. The Scottish Independence question will unfortunately complicate all manner of debate on thousands of issues over the next year. Alex Salmond wanted this 'conversation' wherever it should crop up. Personally I wish he had never opened his mouth.

2013 and no Mobile signal in Seil its absolutely ludicrous, Surely if enough people shout loud enough somebody would listen. Perhaps an online petition would work.

My line of work takes me to some of the remotest area's in the country, and generally I can get some kind of signal albeit sometimes very poor, however down here in an area fairly well populated we have nothing.

There was mention in the press sometime back regarding trialing Femtocells in certain area's of Scotland, Seil has excellent broadband and would perfect for trialing such technology.

If Kilmelford can get a new mast surely Seil should also be considered, Thoughts on the above would be most appreciated.

I've just been away on the boat for three weeks and been able to keep in touch with clients via an almost constant Vodaphone signal throughout the NW Highlands, on land and at sea. It seems bizarre that there is a strong signal in places like Laide (Gruinard Bay) yet nothing on Seil.

How exactly did Kilmelford (with fewer residents than Seil) go about getting a mast?

What about an email campaign? Anyone suggest suitable text / recipients ? (Starting with another reminder to members of the Community Council perhaps?)

I've taken out the facebook-related bits of the URL in the link two posts above and it now opens in Safari as well if you want to try it.

So far we have 29 signatures.

I hope we can do better than that....what about a notice in the shop to ask people to sign. there may be many who are on facebook but not on the forum?

It's up to 36 signatures now, which in just a few hours is pretty good.

You can share the petition on facebook so any of your friends on facebook can see it. Most of the signatures so far have come via Facebook rather than people following the forum link.
