I see that according to the OT the windfarm has crossed the bridge.

Nick, The first mention, as far as I can tell, of a place name called 'Clachan Seil' around these parts was around the crossroads at what is now Auchnasaul - or 'The Old Smiddy.' Where the crossing of the River Seil is. From memory on Gen William Roy's map (circa 1750'ish.)

'Clachan' being used in this case as meaning a ford or crossing point - also as in 'Clachan Dubh' - the black ford as at Balvicar - also as in Clachan Sound where there are many places where it is fordable.

The GreenRay the afore mentioned book by Jules Verne mentions Clachan but it seems to be on the way to Seil not on it.

The public hearing will be held in the Corran Halls on Wed 31st October. Interested parties should get a letter from the Planning Department next week.

I take it the 'Yes' is for the BiD 4 Oban campaign?

I don't know enough about it. If my business was based in Oban and paying business rates I would want to know exactly how much its compulsory contribution would be. I do like the idea of one business one vote though . . . It should stop all the usual nonsense about everything being organised in the interests of a small cartel.

I'm pretty sure that the 'Yes' campaign is the call for the immediate resignation of the Eilean Eisdeal directors.

Husker, was thinking of making you and avatar and was curious about your forum name so googled it. Is it after the group that formed in 1979 with Greg Norton, Grant Hart and Bob Mould? Or is it from the memory board game of the same name (though spelled Husker Du with umlauts on the 'u's) that the group took its name from? Apparently it is Danish for 'Do You Remember'.

I'd never come across the group before, but I've just been listening/watching a couple of Husker Du performances on Youtube - excellent stuff . . . . apparently they were a big influence on Nirvana.

Bob Mould's new album, Silver Age, just came out four days ago. It's very good.

Can someone please explain why an application, which has already been sequentially and overwhelmIngly rejected, modified and re-rejected by the community and by the council plannIng committee, still has legs to the extent of justIfyIng and requiring a forthcoming public hearing and why that hearing is not being held locally but requires locals to travel around 30 miles round-trip to attend? Should we be smelling a rat? Are we tilting are windmills?!

Good news for most of our readers then - local opinion has won the day (or at least, the local opinion that actually bothered making itself publicly heard).

If there is an appeal will it go to the Scottish Government or just be referred back locally? Surely the scheme is too small for the SG to get involved, and a local appeal is unlikely to change anything.

Personally I am still in favour of wind turbines generally, but not too dismayed that this scheme has been knocked on the head.

For Argyll doesn't seem to be paying much attention. Guess it's too far away from Glendaruel for them.
