The 1st kilbrandon Guides are 'organising' a beach clean on the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Ballachuan Reserve with the help of G.R.A.B. who are providing all the equipment necessary. We hope that others will come and join us, from 2pm on 6 October. The plan is to move the accumulated marine litter by boat on a high tide later on, unless anyone has access to a landing craft ... Do come along - singing jolly campfire songs is not compulsory!

11 bags of rubbish collected from 3 small bays, plus lots of stuff too big for bags - old fibreglass boat, oildrums, tarps etc. The rubbish is stored above the high tide mark in heaps.
The weather was lovely (dry & sunny) and it was very satisfying! Another big push with more people on the remaining bays and then we'll ship it all out by boat.
Thanks to Caroline from GRAB for supplying the kit.

Well done. Out of interest, what sort of rubbish did you collect and was there anything particularly surprising?

LOTS of plastic and polypropylene ropes; beer bottles; stakes from a mussel farm (?); buoys; a brand-new fishing net ... and lots of yucky unidentified crud!
