Re: Stone Skimming cancelled
Apparently Not...the matter will be resolved?
Hope it isn't cancelled - and hope this doesn't cause too much damage in spreading that it is cancelled and turns out not to be?

Re: Stone Skimming cancelled
Can anybody official tell us what's happening?
It was on the Highland news, before 4pm, as 'off' because of the problems with the island owner.
But after 4pm, on Radio Scotland news , it 'might' be off because of the above.
In no way do I want involved in the Rock's politics but £1k does seem a bit more than a wee drop in a quarry.
Any chance somebody, who really knows, can let us all know please?

Re: Stone Skimming cancelled
You are correct - £1000 would be a good sum of money to be spent on the island. However, it seems that the only way such a sum, or indeed any money raised by the Stone Skimming event, will be spent to the benefit of the island is if Mr Feigenbaum charges for the use of his land. Out of the amount raised in total it is relatively small. I suspect the chair of the charity might make more than that herself in the Puffer Bar - and who will benefit from that?
As for Melville claiming that the land has been used before with the landowner's permission, I wonder if he has any evidence for such a bold statement.

Of course, that was one of the main issues. I find it absurd that the chair of the charity appears to have refused to show the landowner the insurance policy to assure him that he has no liability. I'm sure all will be resolved in tomorrows news. They say any publicity is good publicity - and likely so in this case too. Beware of the hoards of punters over the weekend - no doubt some will be even more determined to have a boisterous time.

Here's a good (in my view) independent article. http://forargyll.com/2012/09/easdale-st ... nt-1101213

And can I remind everyone of the OSCR investigation and our previous discussion: http://www.seilchat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1113
Re: Stone Skimming cancelled
According to the Easdale Island Hall's Facebook page the Press and Journal have paid the necessary £1,000 so event can now go ahead - interesting precedent!! I wonder how the Oban Times will report that?

..............and now, a proposed community buy out, according to BBC Radio Scotland, so this situation will not arise again!

The following article seems to be a well balanced summing up of the situation,
http://forargyll.com/2012/09/third-part ... oes-ahead/
although it does still leave the question of the inadequate policing of the anti-social and criminal behaviour that this event seems to attract.

The event seems to be back on track.
This must be good news for the event organisers and competitors, but not so good for the long suffering residents of Ellenabeich and Easdale Island.
