Why do people have to be so nasty? To 'voiceofreason', I think it is rather presumtuous of you to suggest this forum brings nothing to the community. I for one enjoy reading it and truth be known some people quite like watching a bit of 'mayhem unfold' . Solesurvivor is obviously someone with a sense of humour [albeit not to your taste] and most just chuckle at his posts. As for the windfarm issue, I am against it but respect that some are for it. Hopefully what the majority want will be the outcome.

Re: Forum
This forum exists solely for its users. Whether it brings anything to "the community" or not is entirely for the users to decide, and to contribute or not as they see fit. Membership is completely voluntary, and any member is free to unsubscribe at any time.
It is an internet forum. It cannot represent a majority view, or even anything resembling a consensus of "community" opinion, partly because no such animal exists but largely because only a few members of that community are members. nobody should take the views expressed on here as in any way representative. It is the nature of internet forums (this appears to be the BBC-approved plural these days before I get any stick) and public debate in general, that only those with strong views participate in the discussion. As all are free to contribute, anonymously or otherwise, any who feel their views are not represented have only themselves to blame.
As a final point, this forum allows posting under pseudonyms. Some people prefer to post under their real names, some do not for reasons eloquently explained elsewhere. I would ask all users to respect the privacy and anonymity of those who seek it and not to speculate on or hint at their "real life" identities on this forum. I consider it discourteous.

Re: Forum
It is curious that whenever the worth of this forum is called into question there is a knee-jerk reaction based on the principle that if something is open to all then it must be a positive thing.
Unfortunately, reading back through many of the topics that began life as serious debates it is obvious that they are soon hijacked by a small band of users who use contributions to try to prove that they are incredibly witty and humourous or, alternately, a cut above everyone else intellectually. Consequently, the main issues of discussion flounder and fade away.
Similarly - and as seems apparent with the current windfarm offerings - the incomer vs local schism opens up again.
So what purpose does the forum serve?
Is it a divisive and unhealthy tool that is a negative influence within the community, or is it a symptom of a community that has slowly grown to become divided and unhealthy?

Don't know about ss but I've got a variety of Vini Frizzanti di Qualità chilling in anticipation of game one, a bottle of Bolney Manor Cuvee Noir for game two and a case of Moet for game three (allez les blues).abelincoln2 wrote: Sole Survivor, have you got the wine in the fridge for the big game tomorrow ??

Re: Forum
Ticonderoga, please try and keep things in perspective. The forum is a sign that a tiny proportion of the population of Seil do not always agree with each other, although sometimes they do. It is not a symptom of anything nor a tool for anything, merely a vehicle for those who wish to to express themselves. Most don't.Ticonderoga wrote:Is it a divisive and unhealthy tool that is a negative influence within the community, or is it a symptom of a community that has slowly grown to become divided and unhealthy?
