Oban fireworkd display

Didn't go quite as intended. All the fireworks went off in the first minute.

Pretty spectacular! It's a mercy no-one was injured, though. I heard that people were offered their money back, but not many accepted because it isn't every day you get to see something like that!

Watched this with the wife, and, when it all went off, we waited for the rest of the display.

Nothing! I turned to her and said 'How disappointing!'

She replied, 'Now you know how I feel!'

'Why my Sweet, what do you mean?'

She replied, 'Well you look forward to something, then there's the short 'Rush and Gush' and the noise.

Then .............. there's silence, the lights go on and there's an apology.'

I'm at a loss to know what she meant. Can anybody explain please?

"Easdaled"
I take it this is local shorthand for "Effed up" ?

"Easdaled" and "to do an Easdale" seem to be relatively new colloquialisms that have entered the Scottish vernacular and the meaning would appear to be context dependent. I have heard the expressions used in Argyll, Angus and in the central belt.

In this context I believe it means to give people something that they didn't want.

We were at the event, arrived in good enough time, but, because of the crowds and a full car park at the blaise football park we went further up the road to the golf club car park to see the event.

It was very much closer to the action than if we were in Mossfield so when it went off it was trully spectacular. At times it filled my complete field of vision happening in front, overhead and behind.

After a start like that everybody wondered how they could follow that and as the whole world now knows it was nothing except an apology from poor Roddy!

Thankfully all the action took place in the air and nothing exploded out of sync enough to cause anything to go askew, but, amusing, spectacular, frightening as it was, what crossed our minds was the safety aspect of what happened.

This could so easily have been a serious incident. I hope those organising next years or indeed the one on the 27th of this month will bare this in mind.

Eric, who is the benevolent local company sponsoring the 27th event. I thought it was being carried out, as a goodwill gesture, by the company involved in the Mossfield fiasco?

I believe thanks to the generosity of NorthWest Marine Ltd the barge in the bay is being used to stage the event. Pyro1 are providing the fireworks whilst NorthWest, although not a sponsor as such, are providing the venue, the vessels and manpower.

The ugly duckling will become a swan albeit for a short time.

Should afford some pretty spectacular views along the Esplanade and at a safe distance

Might the bay not be a better venue for future firework displays - can be seen from all over the town with no pandemonium around Mossfield but probably no easy way for charitable donations?

The 'wham, bam' of the 4th still has a lot of merit!!
